No air flow, I'm using Wizards casing tek. It uses a plastic container with a top that must be removed when the mushrooms reach a certain height. It is allowed gas exchange 3 times a day when I mist the casing. I have also noticed that the casings that fruit the small mushrooms never produce a second flush do too serious overlay. I know its because I over misted. I haven't let this happen to anymore casings, I got it figured out now. This is the first time using Wizard casing tek. I guess I'll perfect it in time.

I have had the exact problem w/ B+
I am happy with the results (at last I am getting some), but they are varied from casing to casing.

One pinned like over 200 pins of wich around 50 matured but very small compared to others I've seen.

The other is producing one pin. JESUS it is enormous. The pin is like my thumb thick with a big ball of a head. Its now on its 4th day.

Then the other casing...
I noticed the casing layer rising and investigated with a sterile pair of tweezers.
To my surprise I found two shroom moles all white (I guess from lack of light) 5 inches long and 3/4 inch thick. They were digging man.

I am speculatimg that indeed it is the casing thickness that is at fault. The fact that we use potting soil which is nutritive and the timing of the pinning initiation are the two factors giving us the problems.

If I think we case thicker or let it colonize and then add casing on top the results should be consistent.

On the casing that pinned massively I noticed the pins were on the surface. If these were surounded by dirt they would probably have enlarged bases due to moisture/nutrient absorption. I noticed also that the huge shroom that is popping out was huge while popping out allready.

Anyway I am just speculating and would like to hear your thoughts.

For what it's worth, I'm growing PF strain, cakes all the way through, and have the same sort of experience. My first two cakes to fruit had really large shrooms on them (6-7 inches tall), the second one to fruit seemed to produce smaller ones (5 inches tall or so) and now I have the last two cakes fruiting and their shrooms seem to grow short and skinny, looking like they're about to grow huge, but when the caps only about 1/2" wide, the veil breaks loose. Better than not getting any, but I sure wish I could figure out the secret to size!

I only air out my terrarium once a day, so I suspect that has much to do with my problem. What's an easy way to keep airflow using perlite tek, by the way? And also, could hi temps (75-80) be causing my small fruits?

I think your probabably right. Casing thickness is said to have a direct connection to the overall yeild. One thing I haven't tried is letting the mycelium recover before covering with a top layer. I will also try a thicker top layer with just a little vermiculite mixed in. I noticed the same thing, the trays that pinned massively, all the pins developed on the surface and were small. The trays with fewer pins that developed deep in the top surace grew large. This is why I think maybe a thicker surface and a little verm for added moisture would help fruit size. I dunno though?

You should probably consider the timing also.
Example:

Say the potting soil is colonizing. The moment mycelium pokes through the surface provide the fruiting receipe: cold & aeration. Myself I havent attemepted this because I didn't ever provide vegy growth conditions. Birthed - broken/cut - layered on verm and - cased w/ potting soil (highest PH mixed with lime).

If I could choose when to initiate pinning I would do so when I just saw the mycelium poke through the 1 1/4 inch thick casing.
