Do oranges taste of orange?

Do strawberries taste of pink? Is it all the same, yet percieved by the 5 senses in different ways? Do sounds have colours? Is white light of a pitch higher than we can percieve? It is said that white is all the colours mixed together. Is reality made of white light? Are we? Do we really "feel" blue? Is this what consciousness is? The perception of more and more of this white light in different ways? Is this why god is all knowing, because he can see all of this reality? Is this what enlightenment is?

Yep, it's called synesthesia. The question is; is synesthesia an extra-sensory ability rather than just the senses just getting "mixed up"?

good point.. i remember hearing about the sensitive period for childhood associated with this, if it wasnt used frequently, the 'talent' could get lost... this is interesting because it would suggest that societies pressures are so strong that it can make those synethesic neuronal connections obsolete... or maybe it is gene centred and culture pressures overwrite it with inhibitory connections (in other cultures it could be a gift)
if it was an extra sensory ability would you expect it to be more prolific? if the brain is capable of identifying the hidden properties of sights and sounds, shouldnt it be able to be learnt..? or passed on... hmm i knew a girl once that could see and taste love, she did take a lot of drugs tho... ;] what do you think..

Reality trips me out.
Somebody once said on here that "with our five senses we can percieve but one millionth of reality." Which I think is what I was trying to get at. I mean, I think that reality is a personal thing. I think we are responsible for the angle at which we percieve it, right down to the way our own senses function...and yeah I think that the oppressive nature of our society nips a lot of this potential in the bud, although perhaps not intentionally.
Anyway, as for you friend seeing and tasting love, well it can't hurt can it? I think that's great actually, I wish we all had that ability.

you need to read 'marcotone' by edward maryon
he only discusses pitch and color, but the principle goes across the board.

i've heard synethesia can be induced by high level shroom trips, but i've never experienced it.

I've experienced synethesia during an acid trip; to me it seemed that some wires had gotten crossed- or indeed, *no, perhaps... let me not sound so certain* that pathways were opened.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of the Earth? -sorry, I can't help myself, but really I think it is more of the wires being crossed than actually tasting colors. Although hot food does taste red! I suppose that there is a "taste" of truth to this thread.
