The lease on my car is up so I was thinking about buying a small truck.

If you can afford the gas, sure. Also, why are you looking for a truck? Looks? Utility?

its because it has a salvage title. thats why it is so cheap. it might be hard to insure because of that.

buy a diesel truck, do yourself a favor, they last for atleast doubble the mileage of a gas engine, retain their value better, and in the event of any future fuel shortages can be run on a variety of american grown, and home made fuels.

also, dont get anything with a salvage title, especially a ford.

I'm just trying to help you make sure you really need a truck. If you are doing a lot of hauling, then yeah it may be in your best interest. And yes, it will eat more gas than your average small, mid-sized car. So if you do a lot of daily driving, you may want to consider it.. gas is almost at $3/gal here and it ain't getting any cheaper.

My job provides a truck so I don't drive my own car much.

I can't bring myself to lease again, but I don't want something that will gizzle gas either.

I also need to be able to pull my boat and bring loads of crap when I travel which is why I am considering a truck.

yeah, you can, turbo diesels are the way to go for that.... as a matter of fact diesel engines are about 20% more efficient than gas

a prime exapmle is VWs TDI engine that can get over 45 MPG although its a sedan it really demonstrates the benifits.

look into a dodge cummins turbo diesel

or a ford powerstroke turbo diesel

probably the most fuel efficient truck engines out there for you.

long lasting, reliable, and fuel efficient.

also, even if you get the same fuel mileage, remember that the diesel engine will hold its worth, and work longer than any gas engine.

okay, its not worse for the enviornment.... it only looks that way because diesel exhaust is slightly larger in particulate matter than gasoline. also lets remember that biodiesel offsets that completely.

as for louder, yeah they can be a bit louder, but not horribly loud unless your exhaust is broken.

as for harder to start in cold limates, yeah sometimes that is the case, that is why they invented block warmners, where you can just plug your car in at night, and have a warm engine, and warm heat when you step into the car.

on that note, i know of several Merecedes Becnz turbo diesels from the early 80's that will start right up at 0 Degrees without a block heater... really, its all about having a good battery, and fresh glow plugs, so basically.... routine maintainence
