Help me figure out how to get a car, with no engine, from detroit to chicago

this is a giant pain in the ass, i want to get this car from Detroit. its an old mercedes benz diesel, in great condition. but has no engine.

i need to tow it from Detroit to chicago, about 300 miles. i can get a tow hitch for about $150 for the day..... but i dont have a truck, and noone i know that has one wants to do that drive.

i was thinking that i could rent a ryder truck, but that is going to cost lots of money i dont want to, and really cant spend...

i would like to do this for under $250.... anyone have any ideas??????????

you could buy/build a sailing mast and attach it to the car and then just sail it home. You loot and plunder other cars for food and booty, this could turn into quite a profitable venture.

I would check the the tow ratings for the other car diesels have torque as we all know and i think those old mercedes have quite a long wheel base.

IF the brakes work, with a tow strap you can pull the bitch backroads, altho that'll take a WHILE.

Had to help a buddy move one of his cars that way, with only an Ebrake.
Very touchy, but possible.  Suppose it depends on how bad you want it. :tongue:

You could rent a $30 uhaul truck, and whatever else for the dolly, and tow it that way. Those uhauls come with trailer hitches I'm pretty sure, and with the dolly you'll be golden.

$30????? i think that excludes mileage... which is pretty hefty.
either way tomorrow im picking up the running one, bringing along about 10 gallons of SVO to mix with diesel, and run a one tank blend :smile:
