finsihed the converstion today, got the whole thing installed in about 9 hours.
I was so amazed when i flipped the switch, i didnt expect it to work, but it did! The kit and equipment cost me about a $1000, and at current gas prices it will pay for itself in the next 4000 miles, which i will be driving in the next month alone. i looked at my calendar, i have atleast 12,000 miles planned out this summer. well see how it goes.
I should say, that after driving all types of cars, and worked on many many more. that the engine actually seemed to run better, and sound better on vegitable oil.

Kosmic_charlie- its a older 90's box truck with a rv built into the back it has a 6.2 detroit diesel engine. The same ones they use in military hummers and k-5 blazers

You are my hero Zippos. This is a great idea if it works out. I can see three possible problems....
1) Not putting it together correctly 2) Obtaining enough vegetable oil 3) Not being able to fix it if problems occur
I really hope I'm wrong, though. Please keep us updated on this.

i thought this was a farce. i mean seriously, do you expect your truck to continually run on veggie oil for the rest of its life? i have nothing but questions and speculations even though i dont know what the fuck im talking about. you would think that if this works so good a lot more people would be doing it, with gas prices as high as they are nowadays.

fungi x- its not bio diesel, bio-d is made from grease, and can be run in a car without a converstion...
leary- the lack of grease can be a problem, even when you find a good source its almost impossible to get permission to take it (which they technically cant give...) and stealing it is a bitch. The thing is once the grease is in the drease dumpster, its technically the property of the rendering company....
conrade- yes i spliced off of the heater core lines for the heated tank lines.
ben rules, - yes i probably could run it off of canabis seed oil
poke smot, yeah there is lots of CO from it. and the exhauset actually smells nice like whatever waws cooked in the oil. as for the co, its a closed carbon cycle. which means that im not putting out any more carbon into the atmosphere than the plant took from the atmosphere to grow.
theres barely any change in power output on the engine, although you can feel a little drop in power on the veg in high speeds.
this is un like gas where were burning stored carbon from millions of years ago.

>> VEGITABLE OIL

Whenever you drive by people will think of french fries
No seriously, that's great man! I'm wondering what kind of fuel oil you will use and more importantly: how much does it cost?
Here in Holland some supermarket-bought vegetable oil already is cheaper than diesel fuel.
The difference is this:
BIODIESEL is a combination of one molecule of fatty acid + one molecule of ethyl alcohol (bio ethanol ofcourse) CH3CH2-OOC-R It is lighter and can be used neat in normal diesel engines.
VEGGIE OIL is a combination of three molecules of fatty acid with one molecule of glycerin. CH2-OOC-R \ CH-OOC-R / CH2-OOC-R It is heavier and needs conversion.
There also is a method of turning organic waste into gasoline (the real deal, but based on carbon-cycle carbon, thus eco-neutral) And then there is bio-ethanol, which I have good hopes for.
Basically you can grow a plant, use the oil to make biodiesel and its "straw" can be processed into green gasoline or bio-ethanol

zippoz does the belts all coming loose effect the egnine timing? i thought i heard that somewhere
If the timing belt was one of the belts that came loose, then yes... that would affect the timing. If it wasn't then the timing wouldn't be fucked up by that.

fuck yeah
hey zippoz, where and how did you learn to make the installments in order to convert the car? if you don't have any time to write it down, you can also show me where to go, so I can research it out . you fuckin rock! keep it up
-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Actually i didnt really need to learn much. Im pretty good with cars as i have never had the money or faith to send mine to the shop. When somthing breaks i learn how to fix it.
the conversion itself is fairly easy. all you have to do, is splice into your coolant lines and attach some hoses. Splice into your fuel injector input line, run some fuel lines and wire in the electrical switches.
i got my kit from www.greasecar.com and had it in with about 7 hours of work.

I've heard it smells like french fries. seriously.

Q Where do you get your vegetable oil? A Most Greasecar users fuel their vehicles with filtered frying oil that is collected from local restaurants. Most restaurants are happy to give their oil away as the generally have to pay disposal fees.

that is fucking bullshit btw. over the last few months the price of grease, which is a traded comodoty on the market, has been fluctuating. many places are now being paid for their grease
still, you can find it
and yes it does smell like a bar-b-que when you drive on it

various resturants where i have struck back dor deals with the head cooks or staff/
altthough currently im a bit low on grease.
i only have about 20 gallons left, im probably going out tomorrow night and going to empty a few choice bins
the thing is i personally need about 150 gallons at the moment for a long ass drive.
and it takes a long ass time in back of a resturant to pump that much

right on dude.
i thought about a conversion to run off SVO, but i decided producing biodiesel would be better at the moment because i live on a farm with multiple diesel vehicles. by the way, what kind of injector pump does your vehicle have?
