So what's up with dairy?
    #6683830 -

It's just confusing. I have heard some people say it is bad for you because the body can't fully digest it and that its is not natural because its only supposed to be draken by baby cows. Then theirs the pro-dairy crowd that says it has healthy fats and proteins that help in growth.

I am looking to bulk up and don't know if I should include it in my diet. Also 1% or skim?

Many of the staples of my diet are dairy products. Cottage cheese, WHOLE milk, yogurt. If you wanna get big you gotta eat.

Hmmm...his source has links to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Lancet, American Cancer Society, etc...and your rebuttal is

I challenge you to find some scientific support for the consumption of dairy benefitting humans in a unique manner, and/or not causing or encouraging disease.

I have not found any such creditable research, and the current POV about dairy seems to have been purchased by the dairy industry despite all the evidence against it.

Raw milk is best.
Pasteurization is destructive.

thanks for that, next time I'm in town, I'm going to see if I can pick up a gallon or two of fresh-frozen goat's milk and see if I like it/how my stomach handles it

Is it sold in stores where you live?

Here I have to pay a monthly goat boarding fee. Legally only the animal owner can use the raw milk, so we become part owners.

no but there's a guy in the town where my family lives that sells it. Although it does say "Pickup for Limited time only", but I could always call ahead to see if he's got some

You must not be looking very hard...
The tumor reducing effects of lactobacillic diary products is well documented. Dairy products have also been shown to help lower blood pressure, increase bone density, and decrease body fat.

If you wanna bulk up, dairy is essential. The proteins and enzymes in dairy slows the conversion of glucose to blood sugar, which can reduce the risk of developing insulin resistance.

I started drinking goat milk a year or two ago. I never really drank milk as a kid, except in cereal. It made me congested. Goat's milk does not. It digests easily. I think it tastes awesome. One idea is that goats have been cultivated for thousands of years by man, while cows are a relatively new livestock. The human digestive tract knows how to process goat dairy, cow dairy...not so much. Goat milk has a better nutrient profile than cow milk as well.

Goat milk isn't cheap though. I can get it raw now and then too and I love it. Pasteurization is bad news, though pretty inevitable with the level of dairy consumption being what it is.

Milk is chronic.

I drink at least 2L a day. The dairy industry should sponsor me. I'd wear a t-shirt, hat and bobby pin and rep this shit hard.

I'm drinking a protein shake with milk right now and I'm about to hit the sack with a big smile on my face. I fuckin' love milk.

Research, please?

As to dairy being "required" to bulk up, I call bullshit. No other animals consume mother's milk post-infancy, and they certainly do not consume the milk of other animals. Are you claiming that, as primates, we have unique muscular needs that are dissimilar to that of the gorilla?

Dairy products are NOT an essential part of a health-promoting diet, and may be detrimental to human health. IMO, the smart choice is to avoid or limit dairy consumption. Many people are allergic to milk proteins, and a significant portion of the population cannot break down milk sugar.

Again, if you wish to address the links included in the first response to this thread, you may wish to locate pertinent studies which were not directly sponsored by the Dairy Council, and provide links to same.

For the original poster, and any others who may be interested in changing their diet for the better:

They don't lift weights with the intention of bulking up, either.

They don't have to, as they do not follow the strange human pattern of leading a completely sedentary lifestyle except for their hour at the gym.
