Lysol Spray

Will a disinfectant spray such as lysol kill mushroom spores if they come in contact with eachother? Id also like to know what some of you use for heat in your fc's, are there small heaters made for pet cages or something?

I don't know if it kills spores but it does mutate mushrooms and is as explosive as a stick of dynamite,I don't like it or use it,O and don't heat a fruiting chamber,if you absolutely need to you may heat the room it is in but most of the time that is unneeded too seeing as they can fruit at low temperatures although it may take a bit longer

Try a weak bleach solution in combination with isopropyl alcohol for disinfecting a workspace, and Oust for the air. Steer clear of petroleum based products such as Lysol.

Lysol is great for cleaning work areas and surfaces and things. You just don't want it to come in contact with your fruits. I've had some crazy looking deformities from the stuff.

Lysol isn't petrolium based. It's nearly 80% alcohol, and 20% inert ingredients. The other active ingredient is only 1/10th of 1%. It will kill spores if it contacts them. It's a surface disinfectant, but 70% alcohol is much cheaper, and just as effective for surfaces such as tabletops. I use lysol to spray the surface of my flowhood a minute before starting it up. This helps to kill of the buggars that have landed there since the last use so they don't get blown into my work.

I never knew Lysol was alcohol based, thanks RR. Maybe I was thinking of OUST that DOES have a strong petroleum backbone, not to mention toxic Triethylene Glycol which are not inert. Lysol is also an explosively flammable substance, especially when introduced in a closed environment (ie. still-air glovebox). Lysol might work, but compared to rubbing alcohol and/or bleach, I think the cons outweigh the pros.

i use it to clean the area around my grow chamber.....dat aint goin to actually hurt me in the long run is it?

what about using the sanitizing wipes to wipe down the FC a few hours before i add perlite and my cakes?

Personally, I just wash terrariums and gloveboxes with soap and water. My mini-greenhouse just gets a bleach spray once or twice per year when it happens to be empty. Remember, air exchange is key to preventing contaminants in the fruiting environment, and sterility is the key to preventing contaminants in the spawn stage.

Yes, lysol in a fruiting chamber is a bad idea.
Your shrooms won't come out so pretty

Just use A little bleach and/ or soap to clean a fc before use. :thumbup:
