WBS sucks! probly just me...
    #6654005 -

ok i have a major bone to pick with WBS. i had a jar that was colonizing
for two & half weeks. it looked so 100% two days ago but i let it be until today till it was totally snow white on the surface, banged it to break up into chunks and guess what- NONE OF THE LITTLE MILLET SEEDS ARE COLONIZED! they either break off from the mycelium network looking as untouched as the day it was PCed or just roll around like it was never come in contact with mycelium at all. So what I have is in one corner is bunch of colonized mass and the other corner bunch of fresh millet. and the millet is the majority. I dunno- maybe I overcooked the jars to the point where only millets were affected? anybody ever notice this? I'm gonna switch back to pop-corn if just for the colonization time alone.

I tend to have probs with wbs not colonizing on the top and bottom of the jars.. Now as far as in the center they colonize awesome, wbs has rocked so far for me except for the top and bottom... turned them upside down and all still not colonized :frown:

To wet to dry or over cooked?

Wbs is very cheap, and has many many innoc points for spawning to a bulk substrate. Popcorn may look faster but its not they are just larger kernels and there is wayyy less myc in the jars.

I tried WBS on my first grow, but then I tried BRF and I liked it much better.

BRF seemed much easier for me to work with.

how can you tell if you overcooked something? i'm beginning to believe that was the problem. since the grains are so small in WBS id imagine it's more prone to overcooking than popcorn or rye.

If you are talking to be, then I was talking about Brown Rice Flour. Instead of using wild bird seed.

I am not sure mario I really wish I knew as well :frown:

I say try again with less cooking time, I do 90 mins at 10psi perhaps thats to long.. 60 mins at 15psi is the standard I beleive.

When you break up grains, they no longer look colonized for 24 to 36 hours until they recover. I suspect all is well.

I PC 90 min at 15 psi, and never have a problem. Just be patient with it. different seeds have different surface types and may take longer to colonize.
I have had some jars go for over a month to fully colonize and some go two weeks depending on if i used spores or LC.
My point being that you need to let it colonize until it doest break up that easily. the myc needs time to move to the rhizo stage to form an almost impermeable mat.
only then will it be resistant to contams.
Be patient, it will happen.

Then it will case faster, be more resistant to contams and fruit faster for you.
You wont be sorry.

I have left jars for 2 months and the tops and bottoms never colonize all the way around the birdseed at the tops or bottoms. It covers 50% of the very very top seeds but I still see the top 50% of the individual birdseeds uncolonized. :frown:

What the hecks the deal?

it is to my understanding that popcorn has more nutes than any other grains in WBS? I used to have a bookmark of a health info site that had nute table of all the grains and whatever else you could think of. I dont have that site anymore. can somebody help me out? thx.

Having used somewhere around 8000 lbs of wbs in the last decade.
With GREAT success.
I can say, with certainty, you are doing something WRONG.
