A brown rice flour and popcorn cake or as spawn? Popcorn is the only grain cake I actually fruited anything worth while from, but it still paled in comparison to the PF mix (I tried rye, WBS, popcorn and PF style cakes as an experiment, never going back to cakes again after that). I assume this is due to the ability of popcorn to absorb much more water than rye berries or WBS. I would think if you supplemented this with BRF, the yield potential would go up, but water content is still your limiting factor. And I believe it would be difficult dunking a popcorn cake to get the same level of hydration that you started with. Popcorn and BRF as a fruiting substrate in a casing would probably perform as good as any other strait grain casing. I have also tried popcorn, WBS, and rye berries strait cased, and learned bulk substrates such as straw and manure are the best for yields. In a casing, you are not limited by the water content of the grain, only by the nutritional content...

Yes. Without sterilizing or pasteurizing your casing mix you run the risk of introducing mushroom pathogens to your crop. These could range from molds, to nematodes, to bugs...
Trust me, you don't want that...
