OK, I'm pretty definate on these being poisonous, but what kind does anyone know??
They have a superficial similarity to the subs pics which JJ put up, which is why I noticed em at all, but on closer inspection obvoiusly not.....but what are they??
stains orange......
tan/brown gills are a no-no, right??
caps looked similar shape from a distance.....
the bunch + bark.....

Im not actually sure what they are - but they are very common around Melb as well - they will give you bad diaherra if ingested - a couple of guys i know of got rather sick from those as they tend to grow near Psilocybes and can be mistaken if your picking drunk at night apparently.

They are Dermocybe phoenicea, a non edible species. Sometimes listed as a Cortinarius.

not to doubt mj but those look a lot like Naematoloma aurantiaca. the ones i've found (west coast usa) grow on wood debris like the caramel capped Psilocybes. check the color plates in david aurora's mushrooms demystified for a picture. spores will be dark purplish brown to black if it's a Naematoloma, brown if it's a Cortinarius.

mikeofyle , look at the gill plates of his pictures posted above. No way woudl those produce dark prints. but more of a chocolate color brown. I still think it is a dermocybe. I have seen many varieties of Naematoloma.
Anyway I have been wrong before but it is not a psychoactive species.,
Mj.
There are hundreds of these in Seattle too.

Hey thanks so much mj and mikeofyle very interesting......and that was pretty quick too!
......If I might venture a guess I would say that mj is right here; I doubt very much that the prints from these would be anything but the brown he suggests, the gills are really quite light tan in colour.......
(at least if I can't eat em i like to know what there are .....so thanks!)

I find those shrooms everywhere and I also noticed they grow around the Subs. I could imagin how one when drunk could get confused they have similiar proportions accept for the colour.

Aussieshroomhed,
P. aeruginosa caps are a chestnut color and the stems are pure white and stain blu.
The mushrooms above have a yellowish stem or yellow-whitish stem and they do not stain blue.

Yeah they are different colours, but if you picking in low light and your drunk well you never know what can happen. Initial results are back MJ - the wavy cap has brown Cystidia - looks like its Subaeruginosa! Your right again!
