You won't need to sterilize the body at all since they'll just be there a few days. Use a lid with a few holes drilled in it covered by micropore tape or tyvek.

Here's some never before seen pictures of how I fruited the bra. Maybe they'll make something click for a future project or help with this one. The heat pasteurized and fully hydrated bra was attached to a five gallon bucket, then the cups were stuffed with pasteurized and inoculated manure/compost. It was covered with a bag and left until fully colonized, when it was moved to a mini-greenhouse for fruiting.

So I just finished the fruiting chamber/art box. I also inoculated 4 gladware trays of newspaper with my grain spawn. As soon as my WBS jars of the yellow oysters finish colonizing I'm going to do some more so I can make sure that I'll get the timing right. Everything seems to be coming together quite nicely.

It is not really clear from the picture but the fruiting chamber seems to be completely closed. Oysters need lots of air exchange for proper fruiting.

Right. They need way more fresh air than easy to grow species such as cubensis. When I fruit oysters on pf cakes in a terrarium, I leave the lid off completely, and then drill holes all over the rest of the box.

PitcherCrab is apparently going to plug a humidifier into the box, though. Should work.

Yeah... you can't really see from the picture, but there is a hole in the upper left corner for the humidifier to plug into. Then there is the polyfill for the airflow.

Get rid of the polyfill then, and drill some more exit holes. The polyfill will impede airflow. Oysters are extremely intolerant of high CO2 levels.

Very professional welding work as well. MIG?

Re: Oyster art project and glove box/fruiting chamber construction project [Re: Hotnuts]
    #6570852 -

Yeah, its MIG welded. I ground each of the touching edges of the angle iron to 45 degrees so that the weld would fill it in. After I welded it, I ground it down flat as to make the weld invisible. Then I buffed it.

Can I take off part of the top to provide enough airflow? I can't drill more holes in the plexi because it needs to be clamped really tightly or else it will crack when drilled.

You can also leave the hole as is and install a small fan on a timer next to you humidifier to increase air exchange.

How would I go about doing this? Does the fan need to be inline in the humidity tube? Can I use a computer fan?

Nice.  I think I'd have torn the head off and stuffed it with substrate too, so the fruits would come out the eyes as well.  Perhaps we both need counseling...

Yes, stamets has been showing that picture for years. It's a good one and the one that inspired my bible grow from a few years ago. Gotta love off the wall stuff.

That is sweet! Good job.

I took a small 115v fan from Radio Shack and installed it into the lid of a Sterilite container. Then I piped in 1" pvc into the side of the container. Then I simply installed the container's bottom onto the greenhouse and then snapped on the lid that contains the fan. See what I mean? I can take a pic if you want.

Like this. This keeps the fan dry and you can even put polyfil in the container for regulation purposes. The fan's on a timer for whatever increments I need. Just make sure to use a lid that snaps on well.

Or you can obviously install the fan into the lid of that terrarium.
