preservation problems concernig potency

well, my friend got a box of shrooms with "damp gone" underneath below a wire mesh. all seemed fine until we noticed that the moisture was going back into the shrooms the more we put in. cool so he made a new dessicant chamber, problem solved.

the thing is,what happens to the mushrooms if ever the should rot? or begin to rot? do they lose potency? i noticed no signs of rot, but was worried and is there an effect if the water from the dessicant transpired back to the shroom? is dessicant poisoning possible this way?

The best way is to just put them on a fan for a few hours to get a lot of the moisture out. Since fans can only get a certain amount of moisture out of the shrooms, thats whne you want to put them int he chamber, as it sucks every last drop out, and doesnt get overwhelmed with all those water filled musrooms.

You also need to keep an eye on the dessicant. If it is spent (soaked up as much water as it can) you will need to replace it. When I put fresh mushrooms in my drying chamber the dessicant is spent in about 4-5 hours.

Just something to keep an eye on

Ya, I was having a problem with soggy shrooms, but since then I've used a fan for the first day, then put them in the chamber for the second 2 days. Seems to work well.

I wish I had a food dehydrator.
