*Harvest* Ultra-Low Buget Casing
    #659442 - 06/02/02 05:35 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

Alright so heres the deal... I had 2 Mycobags that colonized but refused to fruit. So i figured what the hell lets try a casing these bastards. I took half of the styrofoam (sp?) packing for a set of altec-lansing 4100 speaker system and wrapped a black garbage bag around the entire thing. Next I sprayed the garbage bag down with water+h2o2 and crumbled up the two bags (im guessing anything colonized would work, no reason for it not to). I cased with straight verm, just tossed it on, its nowhere near level or pretty. Then i put toothpics all the way around the outside edge of the styrofoam and put the entire thing in a black garbage bag and closed it up and let it sit on top of my terrerium. Where it sits its subjected to just normal room temps and humidity is only maintained by a couple of mists here and there. Every 4-5 days i water it by pouring a little water down the side and then tilt it letting the water run around the four corners.

waited 7 days patching ever other day and replaced the second black garbage bag with a white one, and started fanning. 4 days later i have what apears to me like 150-200 knots and 20-30 >1" pins and 5-10 <1" pins

This casing took very little work, attention to sterility, and keeping proper temp/humidity.

Strain was EQ... and i think i pretty much covered everything... as always questions and comments are apreciated.

Awesome Windex! Isn't it great when you throw something together like that and it works out wonderfully?
I'm really glad you posted this b/c I have a few EQ cakes that are refusing to fruit, and I was thinking about casing them. Your post gives me great hope that my efforts will work since I'm a newbie and am sure I won't do everything perfectly.
I also like the garbage bag idea b/c my one aquarium is already full and I have nothing else to use for a terarrium.
Thanks the ideas!

>> where did you get your bag from

sporeworks, from my experience they work better as a pre-sterilized substrait to case ive had 5 bags and none have ever fruited unless ive cased them.

>>Awesome Windex! Isn't it great when you throw something together like that and it works out wonderfully?

hell yeah

>>I'm really glad you posted this b/c I have a few EQ cakes that are refusing to fruit, and I was thinking about casing them.

I would, casing isnt anywhere as hard as it's made to seem. I've been on the look out for coir latly, i wanna give that a try but so far have no complaints at all with just straight verm.

>>Your post gives me great hope that my efforts will work since I'm a newbie and am sure I won't do everything perfectly.

EQ's are real forgiving, im gonna keep using this strain untill i've got the whole proccess down better, im also pretty impressed with the trip. Ive tried PR, has got to be the most visual, but a pain to grow. B+, easy to grow but too high of a body load for my taste. And EQ it gave me the most exellent visuals and an extreme body high. At one point the other night it felt like EVERY square inch of my skin was having its own mini-orgasam, absolutly the best feelings ive EVER had.

The Goa Gods are truly smiling down on you Windex. Burn some incense and eat about 7 grams of dried mushies in thanks and praise.

My MAZ jars are really coming along...and it's only day 6 of the grow. I can't wait to trip off these puppies if all goes well. I've yet to trip off shrooms yet. I've only had shrooms 4 times in my life (3 attempts at eating cubes and the fourth was eating a quarter of a muscaria cap/dried) and I have yet to trip at all. The third and last time I tried dried cubes, I ate a whole 8th and only got a weak body buzz. I'm wondering if I'm one of those people who will trip off mushies better when consumed fresh versus dried? Either that or my trip threshold is just higher than the average bear.

Once again congrats on the ressurection and thank you also for your trip descriptions for the other strains. I have a syringe of PR's and EQ's still waiting for their turn. Should be a nice summer.

Love & Light,

Boppity

about 7 grams of dried mushies
whew, that quite a bit the only time ive had near that much was once on acident when i mis-judged how dry they were

I find 25-30g fresh is almost perfect (solid level 3). (This is what i took last time) tommorow i plan on taking 35 in hopes
of gettin a low level 4 =)

Rock on! I'm shooting for level 4 from the get go.

Love & Light,

Boppity

PS - Have you ever used the calculator on Shroomery to get weights for fresh doses? I'm obviously going to make my first dose/trip off fresh mushies to see if that works better for me.

Well the calc said i should take 17.24g wet to get a level 3, but for me it took 25-30

I'd say the calc is a little on the low side.

Re: *3rd & 4th Flush* Ultra-Low Buget Casing [Re: windex]

Sorry for not updateing sooner, the third flush grew without any air exchange on my part. I went on a camping trip and was anable to tend to them. I came home and their were some monsters 8+ inches long with thick meaty stems. Since ive always harvestes just before the veil breaks (while the cap is still more sphereish) i decided to let these ones break and fully extend. They were beutifull!

In the end i pulled half a 6"x3"x3" (had to make most of em fit, they had a kinda curly "q" to em, and makes em look pretty wicked once dried. I havnt took the weight yet, for a few reasons, explained below.

Flush four has very little number of mushroom growing (3), but are pretty large. 9"-10" long and at the base they have a 1" - 1.5" circumference stem, the caps are still quite closed so they are a bit off from harvesting yet.

Since their are so few in the fourth flush im just going to combine 3 and 4, once i can dry the 4th ill get the weight, and re-wiegh the whole thing, since the last were done on a postal scale =\
