I think it's just a really good idea to omit racism, and scat, from the Shroomery and all of its collective parts.

I believe it almost was made the Shroomery policy before, but the admins didn't do it for fear of losing members who are accustomed to it. I believe the admins would still rather do it if they felt they could do it safely. I suggest to them that perhaps they should just go ahead and clean up their site and let the consequences pay for the cure. After a brief period of turmoil, the Shroomery would recover, and be the best it has ever been. That's my opinion, you have yours. Have a nice day.

I remember when the misquote meme first emerged in OTD. It was funny. Much humor resulted from putting ridiculous words into the mouths of others. For OTD it was considered fine because OTD is one big joke anyway.

However, once established in OTD, the meme began to spread into other forums. In the same way that metastasizing cancer cells crowd out healthy cells as they spread through the body, the misquote meme's version of misinformation began to crowd out the truth.

And here we have an instance of the phenomenon in W&AF. Misinformation in the form of intentional misquotation propagated by a moderator in a forum other than OTD. The poison is spreading, you are spreading it, and I am merely describing the state of affairs.


Let me ask you, what the fuck is wrong with you?  Do you seriously believe that someone is going to go "OMFG SHROOMYDAN SAID THAT!"?

I don't mean to flame you, but I must say that the type of behavior you are engaging in now, Shroomydan, is the same type of behavior that has made American society one of the most legalistic and litigious societies since the end of the Roman Empire.  You are attempting to win an argument by grossly exaggerating some perceived injustice.

I especially appreciate the way you linked several of the words you used to their wikipedia definitions.  It helped me a lot, in that I was concerned that I was judging you too harshly.  Now I have no such concerns, as it is obvious that you believe you are thinking and talking from a level so much above the general populace that we would not be able to understand you without having a dictionary.

Heh, THIS thread belongs in OTD.  :wink:

OTD is invisible to unregistered users, it is not spidered by Google, and it should hold little to no bearing on who gains an initial interest in this website and who uses it for its intended purpose.  The forum is a blow-off valve, where we can effectively send those who wish to participate in an unsavory manner while maintaining order and on-topic discussion in the rest of our forums.  If you do not like what is said in OTD, DO NOT VISIT THAT FORUM!

Furthermore, and with greater focus on the proposed topic of this thread, while I would never have personally made a comment such as fireworks_god's OTD remark (and it surely doesn't entertain or impress me), his comment was made in the appropriate channel and never have I seen such superficially negative sentiments expressed by any moderator in their forums of business.  I don't quite understand why someone would feel the need to make such comments, nor do I personally endorse them, but the administration of this website stands behind the idea of having a single, largely unrestricted medium for communication, and that medium is the OTD forum - where a clear and proper disclaimer is given prior to entrance.  In the on-topic forums for which fireworks_god is responsible, he does not behave in such a manner and so this case is closed.
