Why can mods edit other people's journals?
    #6364586 -

I don't think that a mod should be able to censor someone's journal just because they find the content offensive. Why are they able to do this?

Thats a good question.. Journals are not public forums.

I'm also curious as to why there are unstable persons who threaten death on members of the community moderating the forums.

I'm an unbiased party that bear witness to the PMs in question before being edited by AngryShroom. A death threat is a death threat. Mod or not AngryShroom should receive some sort of punishment if there is any justice on the Shroomery.

Why were they edited anyway? This is not the first case of a private message being posted in a journal for public viewing. It happens all the time, and is allowed.

I really think somebody should do something with this guy before this gets out of hand. He seems to be highly unstable, and overly sensitive.

I mean yes it is a nice honor to be made a mod, but him going into a privet journal and editing it, because he had made death threats against a member is totally an abuse of his power. Now he might have friends who would say oh he didn't;t mean it, but we all know if we had said that to him, we would be banned right now. True?

I feel he dosen;t deserve to be a mod, and as a paying member of this board, i feel unsafe with him as one, as i am sure many others would agree. Him going into our privet journals, and editing it is dangerous to safety to our personal information, and out personal files. Yes he might be very good at identifying mushrooms, but there are also great mods like Eris, Shroomydan and Gumby who respect our personal space, and do a great job at identifying mushrooms..

I hope the admins will see this horrid infraction of power and ban this moderator, or at least strip him of his title, because he has proven tonight that he is unfit for the job.. Thank you..

Thank you for your posts, MrSinister and despisedicon.

Also, I'd like to point out that the moderator Angryshroom also used the IP tracker to figure out my geographic location, which he then posted publically on the BB. As you'll note, I do not include that information in my profile and don't feel pleased that it was disclosed in such a public manner. It disturbs me to think that this is what Angryshroom uses the IP tracker for.

Thats fucking ridiculous.. He deserves to be perma banned at the very least. Posting a members geographic location is a serious threat to this community. I'm honestly appalled by this.

What? Ok now i am totlay outraged. So this means he can just use this to locate where we are? Is this what he is suppose to be doing as a mod? And how many other mods do this as well?

I don't think he's supposed to be doing that, and I don't know how many mods do it. I do hope that the administration sees that mods abusing the IP tracker to disclose personal info about members is a serious, serious problem.

Agreed!~

I think a Moderator should only be allowed to edit a members journal if there is a serious issue...

like posting someones personal information...such as name and address...etc.

or asking for drugs...since alot of traders use the journal to list their trade items.

Thank you for your input, Roadkill.   I definitely agree, mods should be able to strike illegal activity and personal info from journals.    But beyond that, I can't see why a mod would be allowed to edit what they don't like out of someone else's journal.

So that they can fix things when a user breaks the rules... taking a random example, say somebody posted a PM in their journal... or posted a hookup in their journal... or posted somebodies phone number in their journal... it would be within the rights of the mods to go in and remove the PM, the hookup request, the phone number, etc, from the journal.

Please explain why we were told by ythan that posting PM's is acceptable then?\

You forget who owns this website when you come stomping in with your knee jerk reactions.

A mod made death threats against a member and your crying about harassment and posting of PM's.

Your reactions are pathetic and stink of face saving and damage control.

Frankly, I don't know. What I know is that it is called a Private Message for a reason.

Donno... maybe Ythan made a mistake?  Regardless, the posted rules clearly state:

Quote:
On Posting Private Messages:

Private Messages are meant to be kept private. We will not tolerate users posting discussions held in private correpondance, onto the public boards. Any private messages that are sent to a moderator or admin may be reviewed by the collective staff, but will never be posted in the public forum.

You can read it yourself at: http://www.shroomery.org/6284/Administrative-Rules-Guidelines

So tell me, who does own this website?  It isn't you... I know that much.

Quote:

Then the admin will deal with the situtation as appropriate, just as we are dealing with the issue of harassment and posting of PMs.

This is not OTD.  If you cannot maintain yourself in a mature and dignified manner, then do not post, or you will be banned permanenty.  This is a touchy enough subject without you tossing fuel on the fire.  This is your one and only warning.  If you do not have something productive to offer, then shut up or loose your right to post.  :mad2:

Edit: misreply... supposed to go to Hanky, not Anno...

Thankfully Ythan owns this forum, a guy with more common sense than you'll ever hope to have.

At times I try and tell myself that you're an ok human being but your not. You're biased and have no concept of justice.

This thread has been closed.

Reason:
I guess an official statement is necessary. I'm thinking back as far as my pot-addled brain can manage, and I'm pretty sure I never gave permission to post PMs in journals. If I did, it was before we arrived at a cohesive policy which was codified in the official guidelines. I did argue against censoring the Anything Goes forum, but that was because of a promise I made and looking back my arguments don't even seem that compelling.

More importantly, please stop invoking my name to argue with other admins. We do not have an adversarial or subordinate relationship; we make decisions based on consensus and we back each others' actions. If I make a blanket statement like "you can post PMs", it means either 1) the admins have discussed it and that's the policy, or 2) I'm wrong. Either way, there's no need to lash out at staff who are doing their job, unless you want to kill any sympathy we might have had for your cause. As the popular saying goes, "we don't get paid enough to deal with this shit" and you may just find yourself banned with extreme prejudice.
