Before we make any definite changes to the forum, I am giving the membership my word that they will be able to see a list of our available options and speak their own piece on them before we take any action. We want to work on a solution that will keep the most people happy, while also preserving the emotional and physical health of the community. My hopes are to begin this final debate at the beginning of next week, no promises.

Why not make it an open forum to view from this point on and then everyone would know that. All other private shit that fits into afoaf's post can be done via PM like every friggin body else. Even scammers. Well, if someone had enough evidence brought against them that they were being investigated for scamming, I dont want to wait till 10 people report them. I want to know before I lose any money to them.
The mods didnt get such a big head when they didnt all get in their secret little room and start talking shit. Issues like this did not occur prior to the secret forums. Secret forums are stupid.

There is no way around having a private means of discussion for the administrators of the site. We don't want to throw open topics that we are only mildly concerned about into a wild suspicion that could flood the boards. If we have conclusive evidence that someone is a scammer, they will be banned. If we don't have enough evidence, but there is suspicion -- well that's what the Trade Rates are for.
There is waaaaaaaaaay too much sensitive information in the forum to open it to the public - no bones about it, it ain't gonna happen. The staff needs to feel comfortable bringing their concerns to the administration without facing a barrage of hate or dissent before the matter has even been considered.. people here are quick to react upon emotion and it is better to be able to bring the concern to the entire administrative body for discussion than just via a PM to one single person if the issue is of a sensitive nature, or worse yet the entire membership. True democratic ideals will never work in practice because issues would have a hell of a time getting resolved. Going off on a tangent here, but Communism is a fantastic idea in theory, it just doesn't work in practice because of the human variable.

Not at all... does upper management at a capitalistic company ever have closed door meetings where the employees of the company are not allowed ot hear what is said? All the time...

That's so very true.

Not to mention little was done. If someone whored up the forums we'd have to wait until Aphex came online next before it was fixed, and we could only tell him via Email because he checked that most frequently.
Aphex will tell you one of the main reasons that forum was created (besides my ever lasting nagging) was so we could act quickly when needed and have a forum that the mods could speak freely about problems on the boards.
There was almost zero communication before that point, and might I also mention when me and 3D took over we removed over 20 inactive mods who hadn't logged in many months.
Simply is no comparison. EVERY large BB, even most small have forums for the people who run the site, its the easiest way to communicate and keep up to date with various issues.
I can't tell you how important those forums were after Rippers death this year, it was invaluable.
