Culinary Arts Forum?

I'm not sure if someone has posted this before but I was wondering what the Administration thought about creating a forum like this? I know a lot of Shroomerites would appreciate and occupy it.

TheShroomHermit originally brought this idea up, about 9 months ago, and I have always supported it. He appears to be well-fed, and I believe would yield very finely marbled meat. I can think of many recipes for preparing him, that I would like to share, and such a forum would be most beneficial to these ends...

Great idea.  Culinary Arts and the proposed Tomato Cultivation forum would make a great addition to the shroomery.

Actually, the Tomato Growers Forum existed for a brief time, one strange night...

I'd be into this as well...and would, at the risk of excessive flaming no doubt, be happy to deal with vegetarian issues and recipes and things of such a nature, to the extent that anyone would care

I used to be a vegetarian. The truth is... that it was just to hard. At the time I didn't know how to prepare tasty vegan meals (and how i lusted for the simplicity of a hot dog, or a hamburger) and I found myself resorting to junk food like chips and soda. When I reverted back to allowing meat products in my diet, the quality of the food I consumed went way up becuase I knew how to cook them. If this forum existed when I was a vegan, I might still be one today.

As a culinary arts student, I would love to moderate such a forum.

I think it would rock.

I found it a little hard at first, but not overly so...just had to develop at least some mentality for cooking. Mostly it's just very easy stuff, black beans with some onion and garlic heated up in a pan, for example, but I like making more elaborate stuff too. There's so many recipes on line you could cook for millenia and never make the same thing twice, I think.

Culinary arts student, I'm so envious, I'd love to do that but have a mortgage and many other bills, and the only schools anywhere near me either don't offer anything in the culinary field, or don't have those classes at night.

Maybe you should bring this up in the Mod forum...

If there is enough support, which would be demonstrated by participation in this thread, then it might happen. This battle was fought about 9 months ago, but things change, and it could be time for a Culinary Arts forum. We might also include other "food issues" such as vegetable gardening, and critters, and so forth... We could also talk about wines and maybe beer-making...

I am not adverse to this idea. It's a simply matter of whether the forum would have genuine activity, or just be a passing fad...

So let the discussion continue...

I have a recipe, called Eggbrowns.

Cook up some hashbrowns until they are golden, then throw some eggs in, remove heat, and stir.

mmmm eggbrowns...

Want to hear about some of the shit I ate for breakfast when I was a vegetarian? This is a recipe I made up. (in other words, don't try this at home)

Ramen Mc Donalds:
1 ramen noodle.
1 egg.
2 table spoons of cheese.

Take your frying pan and set it on a medium. Take your ramen noodle out of the package, find the seem and break it in half (it's folded over itself, the weak spot if on on of the sides) Scramble one egg in a glass. Put one half of the raman noodle on a plate and pour the scrambled egg into the square of uncooked noodles. Then flip this into the pan.
At this time time take your cheese and spread it evenly along the surface of the second half the ramen. Nuke this for 30 seconds. Take the melty cheese half out of the microwave, take the cooked egg half out of the frying pan, put them both on a clean plate and stick them both together; cheese side down... and stick it on the top of the egg half. Eat like it was a breakfast sandwhich. (Well, it is)

See papaver, this is why Joe Everyman needs a 'Culinary Arts' forum.

Hmm... Try a positive sell instead of a negative sell.

What would this forum's direction be? Can we expand it to include some of the things I mentioned above, so it would appeal to a broader audience and be more active...

I think if it was about all aspects of food (including gardening) and included wine and beer, then it might fly, but I don't know. I'm kinda low energy right now...

If you make some food and freeze it, can you trade it in the Marketplace ?
Theshroomhermit, I think my favorite veggie breakfast is a tofu scrambler, using the boxed flavoring mix (easier than having to make that up by yourself) and adding in onion, red and green pepper, a little garlic, and some potato (boiled)..I put cayenne pepper all over it too, I like spicy food.
'Nutmeg sandwich', eeeeeeeewwwwwwwww, that would be a tough one, huh?
Papaver, I like the suggestions about other related things, like wine and beer, that'd be cool to have somewhere to toss about ideas about different ones people like or hate. Belgian shroomerites could even send me lots of Belgian ales to inspect, just to make sure they're safe and all...

Okay, i've brought it up. What would people think about a forum which covered Recipes for non-drug food/drink/wine/beer...etc.. (alcohol excluded from the non-drug part).

Or possibly merging the gourmet + medicinal mushroom forum with those things. Setting up a sticky post with recipes. No posts, just recipes. We could probably have some yummy stuff by only a few weeks time.

Perhaps a poll:

Gourmet Forum
Add a new forum - Culinary Arts
Add a new forum - Something "pantry'esque" Which covers recipes, growing techniques for ingredients, beer+wine making
Change the current setup of Gourmet and Medicinal forum to a Gourmet forum, covering all things food.
Change the current setup of the Gourmet and Medicinal mushrooms forum to somethign "pantry'esque" which covers all things food/drink.

I like it, think it would very cool.

I think leaving that forum to itself makes sense, might be too congested putting it in with this other info we're considering. I like not having to restrict it to just recipes, with no posts, though, since people will probably want to discuss things a bit.

I like the idea of merging the Gourmet / Medicinal Mushrooms Forum with a culinary arts / recipe kinda thang. I'd definitely check it out. Good ideas, my friends!
