I've had a psp since launch day, i've got a type A, 1st generation. I bought it so that i could play playstation 1 games on it as many magazines were raving we would be able to, it was after all a "playstation portable". I got mine back in the 1.50 days and was looking forward to playing all my favorites, but no...Sony roll in and act like total cunts again. Firstly they do everything in their power to prevent people doing what they want with their own damn consoles, I like homebrew so I stuck with 1.50 and eventually when I grew bored with it I updated. Some time passes and my psp sits on 2.01 while I ignore it. Skip a few months ahead:

Out of the blue I pick it up and update to the latest version of 3.03 without thinking, as soon as i'm done a little research tells me that PSX games are now available for the psp. Sound good? A little more research lets me find out that you have to buy the game through your ps3 and then activate it on your psp. I don't have a ps3, I can't convert and play the games I have because sony want another £450 out of me. Thats right you need a ps3 to play your old playstation games, and you can't even play yours, they have a limited selection of the oldest ones online. I was inches away from selling my psp...Skip another 3 months ahead.

Eventually a downgrader comes out for 3.03 and i'm happy again, went down to 1.50 and then upgraded to Dark_Alex's 3.10 OE-A firmware. JOY!! I'm sitting playing Final Fantasy 7 on my psp RIGHT now, and am converting all my old psx games to playable psp format :laugh::D:D

But really, does Sony expect people not to side with the hackers on this one? The whole buy a ps3 just to activate a £10 10 year old game on your psp, that's a pretty shitty business move and because of it I wont be buying another UMD or updating my firmware to anything other than the hacked open editions. So fuck you Sony.

sweet, i have one with 3.03 oe-c on it, no reason for me to up to 3.10

anyways, the more people doing what they want with their electronics the better...no necessarily the pirating(games should be cheaper, yes), but homebrew and playing your own ps1 for sure...
