I thought all XBOX live games did that?

I remember installing a switch in a friends' xbox so he could switch off the modchip when going on XBOX live.

Shouldn't they still have to notify you before putting in stupid shit like that?

Obviously you're the consumer and after buying the product you reserve the right to do whatever you want with your product.

Maybe Microsoft sees themselves as a world power, but I don't and will not be buying an X-Box ever.  Gamecube/PS2 are golden.  Microsoft can't compete with their limited game variety.  All of their games seem the same, and Unreal 2004 fucking stomps the pants off of Halo 2 anyway.  Upgrade your PC instead of buying an Xbox, get yourself a cable connection and blow some shit up on Unreal :smile:

Microsoft is an evil corporation (Bill Gates = Lucifer).

But Bungie put a lot of hard work into Halo 2, and I think it's a great game (though not as revolutionary as I hoped). The online experience rocks my world even though I don't own it.

You can always get MGS 3, GTA SA, Metroid Prime 2, and Paper Mario.

First off, I don't own an Xbox or Halo 2.

It just fucking pisses me off that using a mod chip, which has a range of perfectly legal, justifiable applications like running home-made games or using an Xbox to run a media uplink to a tv, suddenly means you can't use Xbox live just because Microsoft decides that a other people pirating games means you are a criminal.

How would you feel if Microsoft wrote into all their new software that anyone with a cd-rw drive wouldn't be able to run the software because they might pirate it?

I pirate all of Microsoft's software and there games. I have NEVER once in my life paid for software that Microsoft has made. I have purchased hardware 1 mouse and one router made by Microsoft.

I also own a xbox and its chipped with a x2b lite. I rent and copy games and feel good doing it because I'm ripping Microsoft off. If you have a modded xbox with a switch to disable it you will already have the knowledge to not get busted.

I simple have a really big HDD and my stock hard drive. I got a kit to install 2 hard drives, there is a switch to choose what hard drive you want to boot from. well if I disable the mod chip and boot from the stock hard drive Microsoft will not see the chip or all the other dashboards files.

If I boot with the large Hard drive I have to have my mod chip enabled and I can not play live.

Fuck Microsoft.

I've got no love for MS either, but the correct thing to do is to switch to another OS, another console, etc. and boycott them. Why are you buying their hardware if you hate them so much? Why not another router or mouse? By using/stealing their products you are still supporting their monopoly on market share, and by stealing, you are raising the prices and mandating annoying copy protection for those who WANT to pay.

Stealing from someone you hate is still wrong, and it's not really hurting MS, just their paying customers.

That is non-sensical;

If you steal software from MS, they lose revenue, they raise their prices.

If you use another OS, MS love revenue, they raise their prices.

Explain why using other software as appose to stealing MS software benefits MS's paying customers.

Whats so wrong with bill gates? Oh no a genius makes a shit load of money cause he has a bunch of great ideas that make things like the shroomery possible. Dam him for being rich after working his ass off. Sure he may have been envolved in some hostel takeovers, some thievery, and of course his monopoly, but hey, not everyones perfect. Besides the guys donating more than 75% of his wealth to charity when he dies, which I might say is a handsome sum of money. I still pirate his shit, including my operating system, but thats cause Im broke. Hate the game not the playa hehe.

Anyway if you went through the work of installing a mod chip, is it really that hard to install a switcher box?

Erm, yes, I wouldn't have done anything that Microsoft has done, because I think they're the scum of the earth, along, more or less, with pretty much any other massive corporation that currently exists. In addition to producing shitty software, there is a pretty extensive list of reasons to hate Microsoft, but seeing as you seem to have no problems with big business, I can tell there would be no point in explaining them.

I have yet to hear an actual reason why you dont like MS besides the fact that you're not getting any of bill's money when he dies. You're just blindly hating them because they're big. In fact I'm starting to doubt if you really know anything all about MS or Bill.

You know the only other console with popular mod chips is playstation, right? Sony has actually gone after the people that make the mod chips. I could be wrong, but microsoft hasnt even gone that far yet.

MS is a big business, yes, but they dont commit the crimes that make most big businesses bad. MS is good to the little guy. They don't mow down houses to make room for factories. They dont pollute. They dont fuck over their employees. They dont fuck with people.

Bill G is a good guy. He is nice. He doesnt use his money to make himself popular or hog the lime-light. Anyone who has interviewed him or met him seems to have liked him.

Now give me ONE FACT why you dont like them. One actual THING they have done that makes them evil.

The formost reason is that they encapsulate the predatory, aggressive and exploitative market tactics that plague capitalist societies; they steal code, they design windows-integrated software specificly to exlude smaller companies from the market, they establish incredible market dominance and their software is as a result proliferated so widely that I am forced to use Microsoft products or convert everything at great personal cost and inconvience. Thier software and operating systems are terrible, buggy, stupid, insecure and slow, yet using equivalents (e.g. the far superior OSX) is inconvient because everything else is run on microsoft software . I can't buy a package pc without paying for a copy of windows that I don't want. Add to this financial irregularites that again are endemic of massive business, and you have a few of the reasons I hate them.

Yes, making money can be a good thing and capitalism can be a good thing, but only within strict limits; when competition encourages innovation, it's a positive force, but when society permits competition to enable big businesses to shove smaller ones out of the market, it's a negative force.

And yes, Microsoft happens to make software, so it doesn't use third world labour or generate huge amounts of pollution, but then again software production doesn't lend itself to these practises in the same way the manufacture of clothes does. The reason behind 3rd world exploitation, in my opinion, is not that clothes companies are evil and Microsoft is good, but that exploitation is a product of the unchecked capitalism that has emerged in the West with the growth of big business, specificly the corporate structure. It's this attitude, which Microsoft displays in abundance, that I feel is responsible for the ills of all corporate structures, so the face that it's not profitable for Microsoft to outsource software coding to a sweatshop doesn't vindicate them of guilt.

you post some valid arguments that i agree with, monoplies are counter productive and microsoft does somewhat control their market in such a way. however i feel it is just good business for them to do such; you want to eliminate your competition to be successful. i wouldnt categorize them as "satan" a immortal entity, but human; because humans inherently desire for success and that can only be achieved by eliminating their enemies.

the thing is im not saying the corporations or rich elitist fuckers that hoard money are good, im just saying that they are no different than you or i. a machine bent on its own satisfaction and enjoyment and desire for more, more to create, more to take, more to divour. without this desire their would be no procreation, which in its own self is,when genetically broken down the desire to spread one's own genetic code. to survive we often believe having the most can support us the best. to not care for more is to go against your own genetics, to not desire for a bigger and stronger empire. either way the only way i think true growth can occur is from not having greed. but greed is inborn so it will take a long time to eliminate it from our own selves.
