Matter and Interdependence
    #6568467 -

I feel like the answer is staring me in the face, yet I cannot reason it through. Everything arises dependently. Matter or energy, therefore, must arise dependently. But what is matter or energy dependent upon?

Making the noise "penicillin" is no substitute for actually taking penicillin.

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Only one thing was mentioned. Each other implies two things. If you're suggesting that energy is dependent upon itself, then that would make it independent, and therefore not dependently arisen.

He's saying matter and energy are dependent upon each other.

...I think.

I really don't see how this is a complex issue. Matter requires energy, energy requires matter. The two are interdependent.

Hopefully that sums it up...

One cannot hope to form any kind of conclusion about matter and energy by asking the question you're asking.

Science is divided into two branches: physical and biological. Each scientist must pick a specific realm of enquiry to focus his attention on; other realms should be inquired into with varying degrees of commitment, to create a more holistic view.

What you're asking for is a chain of causality to describe THE relationship which drives the universe. If I had that answer, I'd probably be busy working 18 hour days in preparation for the culmination of my own personal eschatology.

It is a noble calling to pursue a specific scientific field with vigor, while remaining open to a broad range of experience. In Italian there is a saying, In bocca al lupo - "into the mouth of the Wolf". It sounds grim, but essentially it means that you Go For It. If you want to find out the relationship between matter and energy, then you should make a voracious inquiry, by choosing a primary field of inquiry and fostering openness and objectivity toward others.

Hm. I was under the impression that matter and energy are the same thing, as proven by Einstein...

I suppose it makes sense though, that there is no easy answer to this question. Oh well...

We cannot know that yet because we do not properly understand what energy is.
