San Pedro core causes sickness?
    #6521557 -

So I've been reading about different San Pedro prep methods for a couple of weeks now and 1 article I came said "The white material, he continued, will make you sick when consumed." They also said to discard of it completely and it has negligible amounts of mescaline, but since most other prep methods seem to go against this I thought I'd try to clarify this before I'm in the kitchen. Is this just gossip or is there truth to the core of San Pedro causing sickness? Thanks.

although most of us have to find this out the " hard way " . the core is absolutely disgusting with an even more pungent " dirt-like" taste, nothing akin to the bitter innards of the rest of the plant. When using the Erowid San Pedro extraction method #3 ( i believe), i religiously leave out the core.
* as a side statement ;i have many times witnessed the consideration of the skin as being " negligible" in its mescaline levels THIS IS HIGHLY VARIABLE and differs so greatly that it would be foolish to leave the skin out of any extraction method.

Tried both ways in boil down tea many times, the core seems to result in more "foam fun" :scat: when you hurl, and without it is more of a flat projectile spew like hurling kool aid with no sugar :projectile: both suck and I have decided to just leave it in and get the extra goods and the foam (with core)puke seems more one time and feel better,no foam(no core) is more gotta taste it a few times before you feel better.Fortunately it's just kinda random when you puke and isn't like some magic every time guarantee thing more like 1-2 out of ten.And it's normally when you drink too much any way.

Depends on the person, cactus/mescaline never makes me sick but leaves others vomiting everywhere.

My favorite method is to cut the pedro along its ribs, remove the outermost plastic like layer, then carefully cut out any white tissue, only leaving the thin green flesh layer behind, then throw it into Jack Lalaines power juicer and consume, something about fresh cactus that gives an alive trip for me.

You must have a cast iron mouth to be able to consume that much foul tasting shit.

Throwing out the core is a bloody waste. There's nothing in it that's going to make you any more sick than the rest of the thing. And the core does contain mescaline; some more than others, obviously.

--------------------
On storing pedro tea...

Brewmaster: Well, the mescaline will still be in there, but I'd be afraid of it conjealing and trying to escape after it grew in size from eating all the other shit in my fridge, and possibly my dogs if it got out.

Pithlit: sentient drugs, now that is an idea ...

OneMoreRobot: Idea? It's a fuckin' reality. You know Salvia? Nigga stole my TV.

well, i just got my 4 cuttings in today and they were a lot bigger than i expected. 4 foot long pieces, weighing at around 2, 2.5, 2.7, 3.2 lbs. i'm only planning on doing this with one other friend, and i'm still debating on which method i want to use. I'm about to start trying to prepare it. Wish me luck. I might be back to post some more quick questions, I hope someone's around. Oh yeah, and I'll post a pic or two of my 4 beauties.

Nice pedros remember since you only want about one per person save the nicest top pieces to plant and grow.

I don't throw them out either. But, I can see how one would, given some of the compared extraction result figures I've seen of core to flesh. Maybe it doesn't add any special extra sickness, but it at least doubles the amount of matter you're cooking up.

no offense but if it is undigestible durban_poison than it will make you sick. ralph !

the core is made up of fibrous material and would be useless for any consumption, unless starving and mashed well for digestion.the core is just the delivery system for the cacti cells to take in water and nutes.the constituents that we like are located in the green flesh with very little constituents we like being past the first few mm of inner cacti flesh.the constituents we like also flourish more when cacti is under stress because this is a defense mechanism against pest.the same reason your body kicks in more white blood cells when dehydrated.this is to protect you from harm as cacti containing chemicals build up like white blood cells.

hope this gives a nice example without me involving to much science or confusion.your fellow shroomerite entheodome.

thanks for all the info. the reason i recomend tea is so you arent consuming the undigestable parts of the plants just the alkaloids. im sure you know more then i do but i feel there are some lost goodies if you remove the core before making tea. also core or not your going to feel the same stomach problems when consuming tea. if you think i was advocating eating the core well, your wrong. shit i wouldnt advocate eating in any shape or form when tea works so well. if you dont like tea do a a/b extraction, however i still like tea better.

also thanks for the lesson on the vascular system. undigestable does not make you sick it just means your body cant process it. so you just shit it out.

sounds like your just repeating what you read somewhere. prove to me that stress causes a higher alkaloid content. also mashing something up that is not digestable doesnt make it digestable. sorry to get on you entheodome but false info is no good for any of us. especially when something is in a grey area we dont need to cause it more problems then it already has. i would suggest you do some plant research and then come back. also just out of curiosity what makes you think stress produces alkaloids? if that was the case i would imagine the vendors would be selling the most damaged sun burned, water deprived, bruised, possibly nutrient burned almost dead cacti. i bet those would be the shit right? oh yeah you mentioned pests i presume you mean insect damage. the only way mescaline would hurt a insect is by dehydrating it after you convert it to a salt. if you were correct then why should any of us worry about insect damage if it such a insecticide. you are talking myths like those guys who thought putting nails in cannabis trees would make the herb stronger. possibly uv rays may make cacti stronger but that sure doesnt relate to insects. also if the right nutrients arent present it cant manufacture what you want anyway.
