should i get KRK RP8 studio monitors?
    #6466202 -

I'm looking for studio monitors and i hear the KRK RP8's are pretty good, and with the price of them in the UK that is probably the maximum i can spend.
How is the bass responce i heard that the rp5's have crap bass response and the rp8's are much better.

Are they loud?

Would they be good for just listening to music through?

Also, it's gonna put a dent in he amount of money i have because I'm a student, so i hope good sounding studio monitors are worth it, I'm using shitty computer speakers right now and it sucks balls.

ive them the rp8 and love them.. i use them for listening as well, very rich sound. the difference in quality was pretty noticable, id say go for them.

about the bass.. i think the bass response is good. i found compared to my old setup (no real comparison, they were just some 10" woofers and tweaters) the bass isnt as pronounced. im not good with my audio terminology.. but my personal experience is that the sound is much more "level", you can hear an enormous range of frequencies and theyre all crystal clear. the bass isnt "thumpy" like on my other system or in the car for instance, but you can clearly hear it.

i think it provides a much better listening experience, and because the bass isnt booming i can crank it a bit at night and not worry about waking everyone up with psytrance

hope that helped some!

i dont think theyre good speakers at all personally. the frequency response is pure shit. after years of working with the hr-824 and event 20/20's, i went over to a friends house to hear these monitors. sounded awful. muddy, parts of music were obviously missing.

if youre planning on using these monitors to mixdown, good luck. you're must be jesus christ to get a good mix off these things.

if youre in a budget bracket, get a used pair of event 20/20 bas active monitors used on ebay. they are fantastic for eq'ing.

hr-824's are much better for leveling and are very nice for mixing down, but i personally prefer the 20/20's due to using them for every application that comes out of my computer - ie music production, music listening, i even use them to play video games.

we all know there are higher quality audio monitors than the mackie or the events (dynaudio anyone *droooooool*), but if youre lookin at the krk's, youre definately in a budget.

used mackies or events over these. you wont be disappointed.

I ain't spending that kind of money on some monitors right now, i couldn't afford that, The KRK's seem to be one of the best in their price range.

When i need really really top quality monitors I'll get them but i don't need them right down, i just need something that is good and people seem to think the krk's a great.

You'll be happy with your purchase. Don't worry about what the other guy is saying. Unless your trying to set up a professional studio these monitors will be perfect for ya.

hell yeah!

I got them today, i didn't think they would have as much BASS as they have, wow, holy crap, they can go freaking loud too.

They are very nice to listen to music with, everything is nice and clear.

I've defiantly made a good purchase.

yeah, nothing really compares to the hr824s, but for home listening those krks will be dynamite i bet. i have event tr8s myself, and the sound pretty good to me, as good as the krk 8's in my opinion.

In regards to studio monitors you don't want "loud". You want a natural reproduction of the sound. The purpose for this is so that when you're editing and mixing your mix (i'm a recording engineer) you can hear an accurate depiction of your music, not a reproduction with added bass, extra-loud or extra clear or anything...just accurate or flat. That's what the purpose of these are. So I wouldn't plan on buying these for home music listening or anything like that. But if you're happy with them then that's good I guess, you'd probably be happier with a set of logitech Z-5450's though. They're meant for what you're doing.

Peace.

They don't have extra bass or anything and are pretty flat and accurate I think (but then again I'm no pro)
It's just an observation that they are loud, but they stay crystal clear, even when very loud. But you're right, there's no need for being loud when mixing

Sometimes though you want to hear your sound loud when you just made something and see what happens;)
