studio monitors

i've been thinking about buying a pair for a while.. just had a few questions.

it's possible to connect them to my mixer AND my computer at the same time, right?

second, i'm not even sure if studio monitors are what i want. i don't produce music(at least not for now), they would be used for listening to records/music on my computer. would i be better off buying a set of speakers? i listen to metal and bass heavy electronica.

third, what brands should i look into? i was looking at the krk's, are there better monitors for the price? any links to reviews etc. would be helpful. thanks.

If your a music fan monitors are a great investment. I have KRK RP8's and I love them. If you get any of the RP series be sure to get the RP8s as the lower models have a lack of bass.

What kind of mixer are you talking about? a studio mixer or DJ mixer?

It is possible to hook them up to both at the same time. As I have my monitors running both my Dj setup and audio for my computer. You would just need to buy some type of interface or soundcard that supports it. I have the E-mu 1820 which comes with a PCI card and and Audio dock where I can plug in an assortment of connections.
