My latest attempt - any advice??

After my last disaster, I thought I'd try with glass.

I spent a very long time very carefully making aluminium foil and masking tape seals for the glass tumblers i used.

When I took them out of the pc, i found the foil lids had lifted off the glasses due to air expanding from the heat inside. Water had got in and the substrate was ruined.

How do you get around this when using glasses??
Do you need really hardcore tape?
Or is there a trick that I have not thought of?

Take a day and go to every supermarket and hardware and drug store in the city if thats what it takes they're there somewere you just have to find them. Thats what i did and that place has them always year round. Its a pain in the ass but thats what you need to do.

I use glasses with foil and I've never had that happen. I don't even use tape. I just press the foil tightly around the glass. Did you tape the foil tightly around the glass? Maybe that caused pressure to build inside the glass. I'm just guessing here.

Maybe you put too much water in the pot. It is not supposed to be a violent boil either?

- don?t use tape
- put less water in the pressure cooker(max 1 inch) and use a rack to keep the jars from touching the bottom
- let the PC cool down slowly, don?t force cool it

pasta sauce jars often will come in pints and quarts. if you want to collect some it would be a good idea.

But then how do you get the cakes out?
Pasta sauce jars are usually not wide mouth in my experience.

I use hellmans mayonaise jars, when it comes time to get them out I either use a sterile poon and spoon it out and then case you cant really get a cake out of a jar like that unless ya crack the jar open wit a hammer....
