Foot Smell, but No Sign of Contams.
    #647464 - 05/27/02 07:59 AM (23 years, 1 month ago)

I have two verm/coir casings each with 2 pints of PF birdseed. The first flush came and went. Then Cobweb mold appeared on the top of the first casing. I cut out a large section of the casing around the moldy area. No signs of contams afterwards, but one day I opened it to put in a new casing and I could smell the foot smell. I said "shit" then I took out the casing and broke it apart to try and locate the contam. To my suprise I found nothing. Nothing but healthy looking mycelium. I also noticed that I couldn't smell the funky smell on the casing. It was only coming from the terrarium.

The terrarium is a very large clear plastic container, with a black plant trey full of damp perlite, and a cool mist setup. I can't explain why I smell feet only in the terrarium. It could be the perlite, but my guess is that cobweb mold exhists even though you can't see it. The smell must be some sort of byproduct of cobweb growth. It is definately not normal mushroom smell. Needless to say, the casing is trash.

Yeah Ive gotten some smelly perlite after its been in there ofr a few weeks. Im sorry to hear you threw it away

I actually just did that about a month ago. I thought it was trich, but it was just some aggressive mycelium...lol.
