Almost pleasent stinky foot smell

Howdy people,

Hope this isn't a dumb question.

AFOAF grows one strain regularly. It colonizes rapidly on PF Tek cakes. However, another strain doesn't. It's taken 4 weeks to get to 100%. The regular old cakes don't have a strong smell at all and have never been contaminated. The new strains 100% colonized jars have a DEFINATE smell to them, kinda pleasent mushroomy and smelly feet like. Is this bad? I've never smelt stong smelling cakes.

Does the mycellium of some strains smell a lot stronger than others?

Are they bad?

If it smells like fresh mushrooms, then the cake is good.
I'm not sure if different strains have stronger smells. I would imagine not, but I can't be for sure; I've never grown...

Any "weird" smell will usually be a contam. Wait until you see it before chucking out the cake.

slow colonization and feet smell sounds like yeast to me. the yeast arent necessarily going to kill your mycelium, but may rob it of some of the nutrients and hence its vigor. sometimes mycelium will coexist with various yeasts.

try increasing the amount of O2 in the jar by loosening the lid and inverting it.
