Yep. Coir is pretty damn handy. Was going to go the miracle grow moisture control route awhile back, but coir/verm is pretty easy to whip up. And actually easier to find this time of year.

2 bricks, shame on you  :tongue2: you could have sent them to me :yesnod: I cant get poo easily where I live and haven't really gotten into composting yet so coir and coffee has been a godsend for the last couple grows,I do think poo wins hands down flush wise and size of fruits wise its just that I don't live where horses do and for the ease of use that coir provides I just rather scrap it and put another in the greenhouse after flush # 2

Aww I cant wait to start composting. Especially after agars post the other day; he knocked straight MycoNitro with LC.. Lookd like it would be worth the extra effort. And its cheap, perfect, bulk substrate...

But yeah Coir still rocks. Widely available at least.

Edit:
And I think you paticulur brand is actually made for organic gardens so it may already be Ph balenced. The package may say, but it looks like the brand in a post that said that.

Well I remember reading a post about some kind of coir that is Ph balanced, but I cant remember what brand it was. I thought it had 'eco' in the name. All I can get is Bed-a-beast. I'm sure most coir is pretty close to 7.5.

But a long term buffer is prolly recommended for good second and third flushes.

Actually, every brick of coir I've ever tested was in the pH 5.0 to pH 6.0 range. You need to use gypsum and lime.

How well do you think JUST Gypsum works?

I'll second that.  You can get a wonderful first flush but the stuff just falls apart.

LOL,

Compost is the #1 substrate, in my book.
Second is well weathered h/poo.
Coir is a very distant 3rd.

But, works.
Works better is heavily supplanted with organic nitrogen's.
(spent coffee grounds, worm castings, c/poo or poultry poo)
Works even better 50/50, with either h/poo or compost.

It's all about what you can find, afford, have on hand, or gather up.

I like agars book

But yeah, coir IS a godsend for some folks..
Even if composting it would be good to supliment your compost supply.
Not everyone has an endless rotation of it.
Speaking of.. You NEED to market MycoNitro man... thinkada $$
If I had resources I know I would... so you should at least get a patent .. cause I might steal it.. hehe
