id say let er go, you could get away with small patches but it dosnt look like overlay to me just uneven colonization

Is it just straight popcorn as a substrate or did you spawn it to something before you cased it ??

The 60/40 tek is verm-coir by the way, not coir-verm. It probably will overlay, but should still fruit. Coir makes a good substrate, but a poor casing, especially at sixty percent. Just look at it as a substrate on top of your spawn. If it totally colonizes and you want a casing, just top it at that time with peat/verm.

That's not really overlay. Overlay is when the myc becomes so thick that it covers the ENTIRE surface of a tray (or whatever it's growing on) and forms a hard layer of mycelium that can no longer produce fruit bodies because of the abnormal growth. What you have is myc spots that, if properly treated, can produce fruit bodies for some time.

Peat runs about Ph 4 to 5.5. I don't attempt to keep up with individual brands to know if they add lime or not. You want your peat/verm to have an initial Ph of 8 to 8.5.

Hi, my first question, been lurking a lot.

Roger, have you ever used one of those probe pH meters like sold at wal-mart? I bought one today, wondered what experiences other have had for checking pH with these.

They're pretty much crap like everything at walmart. The good probe type testers cost $115. I think the brand name is Kelway. Do a search of Agar's posts and you'll see a picture of one, or you can find it with an internet search.
