Forgot the vermiculite layer!

Yesterday when I was preparing another batch of jars, I messed up my math somewhere and got about twice as much substrate as needed. I was thinking about this while I was filling up the jars and sterilizing them, and I forgot to put the vermiculite layer on top. What are some precautions I can take to keep them from getting contaminated?

i can think of 2 ways, either keep the holes taped, or take 3 coffee filters and put it over the top, and tape this down, you will still get air exchange if you do this
