My GF's brother did that shit when she still lived at home. She had a regular door knob with a lock on it, but he would always bust in and take her shit. If she left any money anywhere in the room, it was guaranteed it would be gone.

Eventually, we replaced the doorknob with a deadbolt. It did have the downside that the door wouldn't stay closed without it being locked (it would just swing open otherwise). It worked really good though. That was the end of him digging through her room.

It feels a LOT better now that I have a sold padlock on my door connected to bolts going all the way through the door and wall. Now I can leave and know that there's no way he's getting in. My dad helped me find the drill bits and everything I needed, and I sat him down for a little talk.

I told him that he needs to parent him, not be his friend or baby him. I explained that he does so much shit for him that he's completely ungrateful for and he needs to stop. I told him that I want nothing to do with him until he learns some respect and after he listened to all I had to say he told me he'd start by not letting him have anyone over for a month. Sounds like a blank threat though. I doubt he'll actually follow through with it. Whatever...my stuff is safe for now. I'm happy.

i know it's not really your place to be parenting a sibling, but like sometimes that has to be done. He is using your mother's death as an excuse to do whatever the hell he wants. Like of course it hurts him, and i am sorry for your loss, but it doesnt put him above the law.

You know him better than most people, either sit him down and talk to him and explain to him that he'S changed since your mother died and that it's not the right path, he'll probably start bitching at this point so just tell him to stfu and listen to you, then return to a calm voice, tell him he's gonna end up face down in a gutter if he goes on as he is at the moment.

Might not work, but then again it might. I went through a similar thing with my brother, and it worked. It was my older brother aswell, so it was alot more weird, and telling someone to shut up when they're looming over you is a bit harder to do than with someone smaller and younger than you. Anywho, my advice is try sort out that thing with your bro, if you don't he might end up robbing other people's houses since he can't get into your room.

I completely agree with you, except for the face up in the gutter part.  I don't think he's that out of control, he just has a severe respect issue.  He won't take out bolt cutters and risk getting caught in my room, he'd rather bust in with a credit card in the pretense that he was never in there at all, and me having no concrete evidence.  There's no way he'd risk me finding a busted lock and beating his ass.  My dad already told me it's a go if I wanna lay into him next time I catch him fucking up :thumbup:

Don't fucking bring the cops into your house when you're dealing with family, I learned that early on. Especially since you and your father do drugs and have pieces and all of that. Yeah they can't search shit without a warrant and it's not even like they would want to int he first place but I mean getting the cops involved with family is just a bitch ass move.

Get a safe, that's your best bet. Hopefully he will grow out of it soon.
