Fresh air exchanges
    #624645 - 05/02/02 04:48 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

How often do you guy's freshen the air for your casings?

In The Mushroom Cultivator it say's :
Cropping:
Relative humidity : 85-92%
Air temperature:74-78*F
CO2:less than 5000ppm.
Fresh Air Exchanges: 1-3 per hour???????????
flushing pattern: Every 5-8 days

1-3 times per hour?
is it realy this much?

I think you answered your own question.
ideal is at least 1-3 air exchanges per hour, enough to keep CO2 less than 4kppm.
ie. for an average range of cropping containers, the incoming air must be at (Volume of air in container) * (1-3)..
so if you have a 50 gallon rubbermaid, with ~45 gallons of air volume, you want at least 45 gallons of fresh air per hour.. up to 135 gallons of fresh air per hour..
---
now, you will find that most people here do not do that.. cubes are very tolorant to high CO2 levels.. so you can push it..

Thanks for the reply!

As you know it would be very hard to messure CO2 level without the right equipment.
Lets say i have a sort off clossed of hight 185cm ,width86cm ,depth 43cm and connect a radial fan with a exhaust hose to the bothom of the closset and let it work for 3 times evry hour and let it suck all the air out for 1 minute (3 x 1min)
and at the top of the closset i have the same radial fan with a exhaust hose blowing fresh air in also 3 x 1min avrey hour.

Would this work you think?

Thanks ,
paddo

Also remember in TMC, that what he calls something like "microcultivation" doesn't require as much air exchange and can suffice with opening to mist once a day. He doesn't get into specifics for smaller scale, assuming that most of us have warehouses or greenhouses to tend. The point when one switches from "microcultivation" or whatever to the more stringent requirements of large scale environments is a sliding scale, and isn't very well documented. The more you have, the more exchange you need, up to the 1-3 per hour for large scale ops.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Anno,

This is a radial fan,
A axial tube fan looks some what diffrent.
But is almost the same.
