Liberty Cap (Psilocybe Semilanceata) - in Denmark

Liberty Cap (Psilocybe Semilanceata)
* Date: 8th and 15th October 2006.
* Weather Conditions: Clear and sunny, temp was around 15c.
* Habitat: Denmark, low flat district, horse pasture, short grass.
* Characteristics of the gills: very dark in colour (brown - black) separated from stem.
* Characteristics of the stem: solid, 50-75mm long, 2-3mm diameter, kind of kinked, yellow/white - light brown in colour, dry not slimy.
* Characteristics of the cap: conical with a pronounced nipple on the top of the cap, 10-15mm diameter, 10-20mm tall, golden yellow/white - brown in colour, wrinkled and dry rubbery texture (not slimey at all)

Copy/paste some of the above from "uarewotueat" and change it into my data thanks  :thumbup:

i would be half pressed to say maybe they do. People might not be looking for them right though.

when i was reading it i thought it sounded a bit familiar...

but u missed the deliberate mistake... i got the gill colour wrong... should have been dark purple! :lol:

You are right! and I was thinking about the color of gills but was uncertain whit my English  :blush:

So here I try agaain...

The color spectra goes from ("White"-purple?) Dark purple over brown to Black  :mushroom2:

Please take a look at this gills here Liberty from Norway - the are quite light purple. ØHH  or what?  :confused:

hehe yeah they have very light purple gills indeed... the ones here are like that too, the gills turn darker purple as the mushroom matures :smile:
eventually turning brown/black with age.

ordinarily, the color progresses from an initial light grey or smoky brown to the color of the spore deposit but there is a phenomenon, usualy in the late season, where the brown pigments in the flesh of some finds dissapear, in the end resulting in the later finds being what one might call albino. the brown color is gone and one finds pale orrange specimens with white gills.

this is based on my observations and what i've heard/read from others. i'm not sure if my interpretation is entirely accurate but this might explain lighter gill color.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
