Are these Liberty Caps (Psilocybe semilanceata)? ID please!
    #2728653 - 05/25/04 04:18 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

These were found in a cow pasture, growing next to (but not on) old cow pies. They were mostly found in clumps of taller grass. They were found in western Mass, on a day after a good rain in low 70 degree overcast weather.

The spore print is dark purple, almost black.

Here's some pics:

Hmm... I'm starting to think they are Panaeolus papilionaceus.

I thought this may have been too good to be true.

a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)
b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
c. Measurements of cap and stem.
d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
f. Spore print color (very important!)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises
h. Scent of mushroom

Could you give us some more information based on this table? Oh, and it's good to see you on Shroomery bluedolphin (I know you from Bluelight).

just a guess but they bear some resemblance to panaeolus castaneifolius. lightish cap with black gills and white skinny stems. cast's have purple black gills with same color spores, and are mainly found on the eastern coast. unknown levels of psilocybin tho. look on the FAQ for more info on this species.

You are correct... if not papilionaceus, then something similar to Pan campanulatus.
