The one on the left looks like it has a similar cap. I thought they had white stems though. Take a spore print, let us know. Also, where were they found? What habitat?

Sorry but those are not liberty caps m the stems are too dark. They should be straw yellownot the colour in your images and the caps are too thick.

really? Maybe because of the inturned margin? Otherwise they had me fooled - we dont get those very often in Australia and ive never seen a confirmed fresh specimen before so all your input is greatly appreciated.

They look like a species of "Panaeolus". I am 90% sure that they are. 10% could mean death or illness. I am picking the same kind at my spot and if they are the species i am almost certain of they are Hallucinogenic.

no way! Every Copelandia I am aware of contains psilocin and related alkaloids - they all stain blue if their active. Generally it is only grass related psilocybes such as Semilanceata and allies that do not stain blue due to their high psilocybin/baeocystin content and low or nil psilocin content.

Sorry your right about pan subs, but as they are so weakly active, i didnt consider them - if you have an unknown pan why not get some specimens identified by a mycologist??

Wrong again, they don't always stain blue The mushrooms in the picture are also most likely not pans, the caps look wrong.

shroom666, if you have access to a scanner you can use it to make some pics., they won't be great but it works in a pinch. As far as the semis, many of the specimens i find show little or no bluing, but i take great care with them to preserve potency when drying. Anyway, if you like i can try to help you identify the pans you are finding.
good luck, concretefeet.

Let me reiterate - i doubt it very much that the specimens that you are finding that stain blue are Ps.Semilanceata - i know for a fact that they 'RARELY' if ever stain blue and if they do it is not significant. Are you sure about the mushroom in question 666?

What kind of whack lib caps have you been picking bluemeanie? They definately stain blue, quite often before picking at the base, and once picked all over.

Maybe soemthing to do with lib caps in different countries? If ours are different in that they always stain blue, then perhaps they are different in potency.

Hey there are at laest three other species which grow in pastures and resemble Psilocybe semilanceata. Originally there were two species. p. semilanceata and p. semilanceata var. caerulescens, the latter ones were ones that ocassionaly stained blue on the stipe, not necessarily at the base of the stem..
Now you have Psioclybe strictipes which originally was known as P. callosa, a blue staining looking liberty cap, and P. sierrae (formerly P. subfimetaria), the latter sometimes has a small ring on it). Both grow side by side in fields of liberty caps and both resemble liberty caps to some degree or other and they do get blue staining in them..
Mj.
But liberty caps (P. semilanceata as a whole rarely stain blue.
