I feel for you man....just got my ride back. Judging by your pic <only a thought cause duturas grow wild out here>Im guess you may live in the same SW MET. city as i do. Lack of public transportation is horrible. it blows my mind when i travel the rest of the world and see that you dont have to have a car to get around.... anyways, good luck!!

How cheap?
I've been meaning to get a car, and if it were a diesel I could run it on bio-D

well where are you located?
im going to be around the bay area, which is where most of the old mercedes diesels are located these days, ,usually what i do is buy a beat up one, fix it up, and re-sell it for profit.

If i were you, i would check www.craigslist.org for cheap diesels

Hahahahahaha.. it's probably going to cost her more than that in gas to drive you.

For every dollar of gas you burn, roughly the same goes into the cost of ownership for the car... so if it costs her 5$ to take you there in gas, then she's breaking even.. not considering her time.

Sounds like you're getting an ok deal here. :P

bay area is pretty far from me. I'd best look on craigslist for something local.

I might just see if I can find myself a super beetle for $800-1100, which is entirely possible. A mercedes diesel would be very nice, but it'd be a larger expense than the conveniently dirt-cheap VW option.

man, there is no chance in hell youre going to find a diesel vw bug for that price, im sorry to say.
I spend about 2 hours every day searching classified listings in the whole of the contental usa and canada, and have never seen a old style VW bug for sale.

you can pick up mercedes diesel's for around $500

check out the classified listings on www.greasecar.com they are on the right side of the screen, usually some good deals there.

forget about cars......

get a nice commuting/touring bicycle.
you could commute up to about 30miles each way, and get infinity miles per gallon. lol.

not to mention WAY cheaper maintenance, no insurance liability costs, etc
not to mention how good it is for your body.
