WOOT new mercedes diesel with Grease Car Kit!
    #14128656 -

So, i Used to work for Greasecar alternative fuel systems, as an independent installer. One of my jobs years back was to install a kit in this guys car. This was probably 2 or 3 years ago, it was an 80's mercedes diesel.

a few weeks ago I got a call from him saying he was done with it, the drivers seat had rusted through the floor, and he could hardly get it started in the winter.... long story short, he wanted to know if i was willing to buy it, I agreed for $500, figuring that I would pull the kit, and scrap the car for $100...

so I got the car yesterday, and saw that the drivers seat had in fact rusted through the frame.... i pulled out the seat, and the carpet, and a big chunk of the car, was rusted straight through....

And I was pondering doing something about it... or doing something productive with my day.... and then i went and drank a red bull,

Then I decided to go drive on the interstate for about 2 hours, in my other car.... just thinkin and pondering what I was going to do.

So, i thought. hell I can perhaps fix this old mercedes......  and headed out to the hardware store, and got some metal sheeting, and some brackets, and some bolts and went to work.... I cut the plate to size, and dropped it into the car to see where it needed more precise cuts, and marked them all out

Then I cut a whole bunch of bracket material, and fitted it around the seat and seatbelt mounts.

Then I bolted the whole damn thing in there!

Then after about 2 hours of aligning the damn seat, and getting the carpet back in the car, it was finally done!

Im so excited, these cars are tanks. it looks just like this one

I have a few thousand miles worth of road trips I was going to take this summer, and was considering just renting or buying a new car, but now I just might drive this!

Im sooo excited, and like I said, it has a Greasecar Kit (which I installed!) along with tons of extras like a computerized controller and a Flat Plate Heat Exchanger.

I named all of my old mercedes different names I have had about 8 of these old diesels... Cedes and Blackie were some of my favorites... This one I am going to name Emby, i think it has a nice ring to it  I want to go drive it, but its not registered or insured :frown: so ill just have to go hang out in it in the driveway.

wordnation

those old mercedes are wicked vehicles

I'm thinking about possibly investigating a grease car in a bit here. The amount of food oil my restaurant goes through alone makes it look like a viable option.

I drove a 1998 E300 Deisel for a long time and it was the SHIT. 40mpg++ and when I hit a 3 series head on after she spun out on bay bridge her car crumbled and mine had $2800 in repairs. That massive diesel engine just fucked that thing up.

40 mpg? damn, that saves on the extra cost on diesel by alot.

was it worth the repairs?

Yes. That thing NEVER broke down and lasted forever. I put almost 200,000 miles on it before I donated it to my high school's auto shop program. It would have gone another 200,000 miles but I got a new car. My dad finally decided I was adult enough to get a car through his business so I got a new volvo at discount and did something good for a high school.

but wait did you paint that before you put the seat back on it? i would have ripped all the carpet and seats out sanded everything and painted everything, as it stands id be slightly worried about falling through the floor on the interstate one snowy night

I didn't paint it, i dont see how that is going to help anything. I do plan on adding some insulation, and undercoating to the botom to prevent any salt/water from getting up on the new steel...

as for maintenance, these things rarely break. the car I have now probably has over 250K miles on it. if anything the transmission will fail. yes, it is one of the same ones from 78-85 that were all the same kick ass style.

I literally have had like 8 or 9 of these cars, i used to make a living off of buying and selling them. Theyre just great vehicles... one of the nice things is that they are completely mechanical.... if the alt, and battery go dead, the car still runs, purely on its mechanical power..... you just cant turn it off and start it again

you can you just have to open your door and start pushing with one leg then try to start it:smilingpuppy:

but i would still reconsider painting it, moisture can build up under the carpet, especially if someone happens to spill a soda or something, regardless the humidity in the air is enough to cause it to start rusting its just a question of how the carpet affects that, but in the winter water and potentially salt water can get to your carpets that way as well

And the metal _will_ rust. But by the time it becomes an issue, this car won't be on the road anymore. So as quick & dirty repairs go, this one should work well enough.

yeah, thats the idea... im going to put some great stuff in there to seal the open air cracks, then im going to coat the thing with some sort of sealant on both sides (because great stuff holds water.
