marijuana cultivation question
    #6174729 -

hey. My question is about cutting the light cycle, i've read alot of diffrent ways to cut it but i was wondering if you've found a particular way that works the best. Also do you think cutting the light cycle gradually over the period of the grow until you get to 12/12 a good idea?

Ok, i havent grown it before but i do have some information on light cycles. One thing that i know is in vegetive stage (Early stage when plant is producing leaves) The light should either be 24 hours or 18/6, then when you goto the flowering stage I hear its better to go from like 18/6 to like 14/10 then to 12/12, to gradually slow it down. Hope that helps.

Nah, just switch those lights from your veg cycle ( either 24/7 or 18/6 ) to 12/12. They will need about a week to adjust to the new cycle. Then they will have their final stretch for the next 3 weeks or so depending on strain.

There will be no harm gradualy switching the cycle. But it is unnessisary. Pickup the book "Marijuana, your indoor guide to high yields" by Ed Rosenthal. He goes into great detail about light cycles. You could even find sun charts to a typcial tropical enviroment and try to mimic that.

any tips for temperature? i have 2 high intensity lights on some sprouts and am worried about the heat they create. i put a thermometer on the soil surface and it was reading 89. i turned one of the lights to a lower setting and will check again in a few minutes. i know germination requires a temp of around 85 so i really dont know.

if your worried about the heat you need to rethink your ventilation setup, if you think its too warm then add another fan, besides fans simulate the wind and make the plants stronger

that could be a myth as I have had plants with no fan and plants with and the ones with no fan under flouros grew good sized stems and got strong.
the fan keeps mold off the soil though and supplies fresh carbon dioxide

Fans help seedlings become stronger, due to the stress the wind puts on them (blowing them around). The larger the main stem is; to more water/nutrients it can suck up and dispense throughout itself at a time.

and if you want big buds, you better make those stems strong enough to hold them

thanks, ive got a good breeze on my little sprouts right now and it seems to be affecting it in a good way.

im up to about 5 sprouts, they all recently appeared. there are 3 plants with both 2 round leaves and 2 fingery leaves, and 2 plants with just 2 round leaves. im wondering is this is an indication of male vs female?

I like to keep it between 80F / 88F. I get worried if the temp get's higher than 95F. Depending on the size of your setup, and if it is a sealed room or exausted you could install a 5000 BTU air conditioner to keep things at a reasonable temp. ( this works better in a sealed room )

Keep the lights about 18" from the tips of the plants. Hold your hand just above the plants. If your hand get's too hot for comfort in less than 3 seconds, it is too hot.
