Pedro growth question
    #761950 - 07/20/02 12:36 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I've had my Pedros for about a year now, and most of their growh since I've had them has been much thinner and weaker than I want. I figured that it was because they don't get nearly the amount of intense light here in the Northeast as they would in the Southwestern desert. Two weeks ago, PC made a post saying that weekly watering and heavy fert helps cacti growth tremendously, so I added heavy doses of Miracle Grow. Since that time the tops of my plants are definetely fatter and healthier looking with their new growth.
My question is, will the thinner parts catch up and start to thicken up, or will only the new growth get fat? Will my cacti start to get top heavy? What happens next?

Yeah, they will get top heavy and possibly break.
Try cutting them under the etoliated growth and using the new water/fert regimen for the emerging pups.
Remember: Light is the best fertilizer.

Ugh....don't go too crazy on fertilizer or watering. Be very, VERY careful.

Also, with such a slow growing specimen....are the increases really that significant to you?

Thanks Cube, great post. I still need an answer to my question though. Will the spindly growth catch up and get thicker and stronger, or should I cut it all back and let the cacti grow bigger and fatter now that I'm feeding them so much more?
