just put the cuttings in pots with cactus soil, a couple inches deep, very little water every 20 days or so, non direct sunlight or they'll die. and wait

I have a similiar question. I have a San Pedro that I recently look a 13 inch cutting from. I just copped a 12 inch cutting off the top of the cactus. It has about another foot underneth it as well as a serperate stalk that is about 8 inchs high. Anyway, would i have been better off cutting the whole cactus and replanting the top half of it? Will my cactus recover from it's beheading? Or have I killed it? I've been keeping it in the sun and watering when needed but in 3 weeks I notice no change what so ever. Anyone?

the best is to seporate the catus in to three equal parts when you harvest. you use the middle part, root the top piece, and leave the bottom planted (it will grow a new stalk or two out of an exposed areol) then after awhile you have a whole nice forest of catus

oh, and dont cut it so close to the bottom, leave like 2-4 inches to grow when your rooting you need to leave the cutting in a paper bag in a cool dry place until the bottom (place where you cut) scars over (just sort of drys out). then i recomend dipping it in rooting hormone, which has anti-fungal junk in it to protect the cutting until growing under its own power. of course san pedros are amazing, you dont need to do any of this, it will still grow as long as you dont keep it damp enough to rot. you can just toss a 2 inch piece on top of soil and it will eventually grow roots and start growing up ward. very difficult to kill. but since all cacti are slow compared to shrooms etc, you just want to keep them going as effecient as possible. i love my little cacti, so great...

I water a little bit more often, but I live in a very arid climate, about every 1 and half weeks, depending on soil condition.
