A question on bamboo

Hello,

I have a few 8"-12" cuttings of bamboo. I have had them for over a year now and have just kept them in a pot that is filled with aquarium gravel and water.

The lady that sold it to me said that she thought that all I had to do is make sure that water was always flush with the top layer of gravel, and all would be well. That has been working just fine, but am curious about something.

Now to the question.

I am getting ready to move the bamboo to another container and was wondering if I should just fill it up with gravel again or can I plant the bamboo into a soil mixture that is mostly perlite?

I assume that I should just transplant into gravel again but am curious. Does anyone know?

If it is better to keep it in the water/gravel mixture, what would be a good plant nutrient product to get to help the bamboo grow a little stronger (Some of the leaves are turning yellow and I can not figure out why)?

i too have many bamboo shoots in water/gravel.... use african violet fertilizer as directed on bottle or half strength to make the leaves green again...i have had mine for many years with no problems until i tried to use some dung water as fert which ended up killing some of the shoots....stick with african violet fert....gives green leaves and promotes hearty growth...i was also told to wash the gravel once a month but i rarely do this... and stick with just gravel/water...
