Shrooms and Diabetics

I have a friend who always wanted to try shrooms. The only reason she hasn't though is because she is afraid it might mess up her sugar (she's a diabetic). Does anyone know if there are any problems or are there any diabetics out there that can give me some advice? Thanks.

With my small knowledge about biology and chemistry I'd say they have nothing to do with each other. But don't trust me on that.
hopefully there are some ppl here that know things for sure

she should be fine as long as she makes sure to eat and drink plenty during the trip...her blood sugar may rise initially after eating the shrooms, but it will drop as the trip goes on. be sure that she eats and drinks, whether hungry or not. she should also check her blood sugar several times, and make sure that theres someone there who knows what to do if she goes too low/high during the trip and needs attention.

I don't know any medical studies about this but I am a diabetic and I can share my experience.
If your friend takes "oral" medicine and eats---then it will probably be ok----if she is insuline dependant that is another story. I take oral pills and don't always need them every day if I watch my diet closely. But I have noticed that every time I case my jars that fungus smell is really strong and with me handling the cakes it causes my blood sugar to drop and I break into a sweat. This has happened every time I have cased the jars so be careful eating them........

From what i understand, plants produce sugars as a way to store energy. Mushrooms wouldn't would they? They don't respire of photosynthesize or make sugars or have chlorophil.
but then what do i know

You're right....and when my blood sugar drops, its a result of me burning all the available sugar in my blood, then I start to shake and sweat and get all anxious.........The thing of it is......everytime I handle the mycelium to case it, something causes my blood sugar to drop suddenly.....it doesn't happen when I handle the mushrooms.

I am a diabetic type 1 insulin dependant. The mushrooms will have no effect on the diabeties at all. what can effect the blood sugar levels is how the person on the shrooms reacts to them for example if they bug out and start flipping then they may burn up some sugar or they get real excited as a result agian they may burn up some sugar but the shrooms themselves will not effect diabeties. If she trips and has a bad time or is having one she needs to check her sugar that usally makes a good trip bad if the sugar levels are off. Watch suger levels closely and she should be fine I know I am hope that helps out.

Yeah, like I said, the shrooms don't affect me but every time I touch the mycelium my blood sugar drops......

My guess is that this is psychosomatic or an allerigic reaction. Try wearing latex or vinyl gloves next time and see if that helps.

Psychosomatic? I don't think so..... Maybe more of a sensitivity since a small amount of shrooms can send me over the edge.....good idea about the gloves and less likely to contaminate the mycelium too....
