Shroom Beer

Hey all! My dad is a hippie. When I showed him what I've been up to, he mentioned shroom beer to me. Shroom beer??? Thats what I said. I guess he had some back in the 70's and that he was trippin really hard, with visuals, at like 3 beers. He also had a nice alcohol buzz :smile: He said it was homemade, brewed by his hometown dealer. When I told him about the shroomery, he said I should ask you guys about it. Anyone else ever try it or have a recipe? He was getting nostalgic about it.

There used to be a post about that on the forest floor but I think it is not there anymore since they changed things around awhile back. I believe it was a liberty cap beer. If you find it I would appreciate if you could send me the info too.

i knew someone who used to brew shroom beer. but i lost track of him. he also made a killer marijuana stout.

Ok, I asked my dad who asked a friend of his who's a self sufficient hippie. He grows and brews. He says brew beer like normal. I don't know how to brew so I cant tell you exactly how this is done. Make sure your alcohol level is at least 5%. The last step of the brew is when additional flavorings and the such are added. Put shrooms in cheesecloth. Put in brew. I don't know how long they have to brew in there but the alcohol draws out the active ingredients. This also works for weed. This guy my dad asked (not the same guy from when he was young) says he has tried it, and it works good, but he prefers to eat them. Hmmm, I wonder how weed AND shrooms in a beer would work out. I think it would be the best beer in my life. I heard shroom growers would be good at brewing too, cause you have to get really clean and sterile too or else your yeast won't ferment. Anyways, I might give it a try if I can find a good brew kit for a reasonable price. If anyone else tries it, let me know. Maybe we can get a Shroom Beer Tek goin.

hey man that's funny you brought that up. I've brewed a few batches myself and i'm a new mycologist, i've been wondering if anyone else had given shroom beer a thought. The only thing is that the last step in brewing beer usually has to be quite sterile. Maybe you could ask your friend if he steeped the shrooms in his wort (cooking mixture of malt, hops etc.), like you were going to make tea. Or maybe just leave the shrooms in there like little folaties, but after everything is cooked and the yeast added, all the bottles and what not have to be sterilized with a bleach type mixture, and i have a feeling if you threw fresh boomies in there you would end up with some contaminated, bunk-ass beer.

After beer has fermented,it is not nearly as susceptable to contamination.It would be fine to soak shrooms in the finished beer.
From my point of view,a waste of good homebrew tho'-I personally don't like to combine shrooms with alcohol...
