casing with wheat straw substrate

Hey, I have a question. If a foaf is going to colonize some straw in 12x4x24" container (rubbermaid), assuming that the straw covers the whole bottom of the container at 3" deep, how many ground up pf cakes should he/she use?PS. foaf planning on inoculating the same straw area with EQ,PESA.PES Hawaiin, and Mazapatec. If it isn't going to negatively affect anything, foaf thinks it will be cool to consume a "mixed" dosage. What do you think? This is foaf's third casing. The first two utilized smaller casings and were VERY succesful, thanks to the collective info on this site! Foaf says thanks

You don't want to mix the strains together into one casing.

One strain will be fighting with the other one....from what I have read and have heard.

The amount of area you are talking about.....I'd throw in 2 to 3 BRF cakes of the same strain.

You could partition it in half...with something.....and have one strain on one side and another strain on the other..... I've seen that done with good results.

A pint jar will work real well with the amount of straw your using, unless you can keep the straw moist ( it tends to start drying around the edges after about a week). If you can, a half pint will work good too. As Road Kill stated above the strains when mixed will not grow together unless you have two virgin cakes ( only one spore germinated and there was an absence of sex) and make a new strain. You will just have different strains competing over the bulk substrate.:)bluhoney
