Wheat straw as substrate

I am sure this has been done before But I would like to know. If I take wheat straw and shred it and put it in a 1/2 pint jar and inject it with spores will the spores germinate and run threw the wheat straw??

Why would you do this? Why not just BRF and then spawn to wheat straw? Use the OT tek that gets so much attention at mycotopia.
