Drying
    #591732 -

Would a shallow tupperware container with duct tape to block out light and hooks on each of its four corners to hold a string of teabags fulls of dessicant up above the mushrooms be a good drying chamber?

I don't think the duct tape would really be necessary. It's not bad to have them exposed to light, it's just bad if they get too hot.

sounds sort of elaborate to me.

i just put mushrooms on a pizza screen, though any screen will do, and keep them in an area where air will move freely past them. When I wanted them to dry quickly, or had athick specimins, I would, put them on their screen atop my stove - the warm air gerated by the pilot light would force a gentle, slightly warmer than room temperature current up and though the screen...
stuntzii will dry in about 2 hours that way - cubensis in about 8 hours.

Avoid high heat and direct sunlight - and don't overthink it.

teabags.....

Yea listen to what mattso says. Seems like alot of people over complicate the issue of drying when its really very simple. One thing i would like to add to Mattso's drying teq, which may be assumed by most people, is to not let the mushrooms touch when they are drying next to each other.

Sounds like you're assuming that I can just leave mushrooms lying around my house without getting in trouble. I can't. I thought that light itself breaks down the magical chemicals and I think I'm right unless the three of you know a thing or two which is completely contradictory to everything I have learned about mushrooms, both here and everywhere else. Thank you. My way didn't seem so elaborate to me. It seemed more like efficient and effective and simple.

Light does not matter when drying, you misread some info.

Use a fan to dry, then follow it up with disaccant. Invest in a big box fan, 12 bucks at K-Mart.

I wouldnt use the oven or stove at all though

Thanks again, everyone. I appreciate your help- especially mjshroomer. Why exactly should the mushrooms avoid direct light/heat ?

heat man.. HEAT.. not light. light does almost nothing as far as I know.

high temperatures break down the psylocybin/good stuff (cant spell it).. meaning it might look good and be nice and dry but you won't get full potency..

Well, I just read MJShroomer's guide to drying mushrooms. It said not to expose them to any light /heat.

They can be exposed during the drying stages with little ham. It is after they aredry thatthey should be kept away fomlong-term heat and/or light.

Hey caca, you should feel very lucky that you got a response from mattso on this. I find your attitude to be kinda rotten. You are a wacky.

It sounds like you guys are ganging up on him :frown:

I don't think he means to sound rotten... he just heard psilocybin breaks down in light, which is true, to some extent. Light is fine while you dry, but like mjshroomer said, prolonged exposure to light can decrease potency.

He read one thing lot of places, you guys told him something different. I think he just came off a little snappy about it.

No offense to anyone. Just wanted to comment

I'm just fine the with the help that has been given to me and I appreciate it. Its just that one of the first things I learned was that light was bad for mushrooms and I've read it in about three different guides. I can still wonder about things, is that not correct? Ofcourse its correct.
Why should I feel lucky to get a response from mattso?? I should feel lucky that a person leaves a helpful response and not be picky about who it is who left it. I am sorry if I seem snappy to you, because I don't mean to be that way.
