dude fuck the dehydrator fan dry them and go to homedepot or lowes and buy a thing of damprid for like 5-15$ so their dry from the fan than you just put them over the damprid for a day or 2 and their perfecetly dry. i made a box and put tin foil over it and suspended the mushies over the damprid works magic man.

i'm kinda stuckl here at the house for a day or so. i'm going to have to do a combination of black shirt and fan until thier done. i hope theres some magic left in em by then.,...

yeah dude youre right heat degrade the chemicals, also did you know that the bruising reaction that you see is means they are losing potency? Yes anytype of handling, chopping etc will degrade them But using an oven on low is the quickest way and they will degrade ever so slightly. When they are done drying throwem in yer freezer til they are ready to use. TRUST ME. Ive dont this a million time, remember the key is low heat. 110 might even be to high. A space heater is what I use and it only cost 10-20 bucks, look in a thrift store. It takes me two hours to dry cyans using a heater, with virtually unnoticable potency dcrease. Air and light also degrades the chemicals so if you use a fan they are gonna still be in a constant flow of oxygen. Either way if you dont eat em freshly picked, prepariung them for storage WILL degrade the chemicals, period.

Technically, "chopping them" will degrade potency, because more surface area of the mushroom will be able to come in contact with oxygen, thus the psilocybin will oxidize.

I live where it's humid as well, so drying huge mushrooms is an issue. If they're not huge thick gyms, fan drying them for 24 hours then putting them in a desiccant chamber seems to do the trick. You might be poor, but desiccant is cheap. I got a liter of damp rid at home depot for $4.33.

Last, don't freeze fresh mushrooms. When you thaw them they will turn into goo. Freezing cracks open the cells membrane of fungi cells(or any cells without a cell wall for that matter).

A little heat may not degrade P. cyans but I know from experience that it degrades cubes, my gut tells me that heat would not be advisable with copes either.

For more than thirty years i have used newspaper on top of shelves with an air flow from a window and on newspaper under my bed and around the house. I have never had a problem. They dry in a few days.

Also I then crisp them in the oven to make sure they are really dry and not rubbery leathery dry.

I had a friend in Florence who had about 100 dried pounds of P. cyanescens. I actually saw the bag-loads in his garage. Within three months thyey had all lost their potency. Problem was they were not completely dried when packaged.

Thaqt was back int he mid 1980s.

Anyway, there is a good method for dying described int he Shroomery's Ultimate field Guide based on my method which I have used for a long time and it works and is simple and cost nothing. Check o it out.

On the other hand you can buy a food dehydrator.

mj. And that depends again on what kind of shrooms you are drying.

In Thailand at 100 degrees and upwards, sometimes it is a little hard to get the shrooms to properly dry.

In Hawaii, it took me over one year to learn how to properly handle Copelandia mushrooms to avoid bruising and to properly dry them. IF they are all oxidised when you bring them home then they will lose much potency.

Also each shroom has to be laid down on a newspaper apart from the others. Not a single shroom should be touching a second shroom. That also causes oxidation.

Actually everything or at least most things relevant to this subject can be found int he FAQ right here at the Shroomery and is very simple for people to understand. Problem is is that no one wants to read except about 20% of the viewers. The rest just want to get high or ask questions which are very repiticious. That is why the mods tell everyone to read the FAQs.

Very informative as always MJ! on a personal note, the only reason I use a dehydrator is if I pick cubensis from the feild,an there are maggots if you dry them fast in the dehydrator any maggots die when they are young,you wont even know they are there,(out of sight out of mind)you may lose some magic but you save alot of quantity.

Otherwise moving air in an open room works every time.
