New Ethno Additions
    #4641795 -

I'd been waiting over a month on this order to be filled--I'd about given up, they finally shipped and everything arrived nicely despite the postal service crushing the box and spilling everything out. I applaude the packaging of the actual plants by my source  My ethno garden was almost nonexistant this past summer, so I'm trying to prepare for a good start next spring.

Kratom in humidity tent

Going to leave the kratom in the tent and slowly introduce it to sunlight over the next 3-4 days. Then I'll remove the tent, repot in a well drained medium, and mist the plant daily.

San Pedro

Just repotted it this morning from its tiny cup into a clay pot and gave it a very small amount of water. I'm a newb to growing cacti so I hope I'm doing everything right. My research has told me that they can take a lot of abuse, I'm counting on that for my first run  I potted in some cacti-succulent soil (50%), Perlite(30%), Vermiculite (20%). Gave some top dressing of sand. Its sitting in indirect light inside a window for the next few days. Should I go with shade longer to let it re-establish in the new pot?

Any tips/comments appreciated

They both look nice and healthy. I've really got to get myself room for a kratom plant...

Anyway, about cacti: they can't really take a lot of abuse, as you said, but they CAN take a lot of neglect. Too much care (ie, too much water and fertilisers) can easily kill them, but ignoring them for six months probably won't kill them. The soil mixture that you have sounds about right, it seems that almost everyone uses a different mixture but as long as it's got plenty of aeration it should be fine. Vermiculite will probably be OK with your trich, but don't use vermiculite with less hardy cacti, because vermiculite holds water like a sponge and can cause rotting if you're not careful. But I think it will be OK for your trich, they like more water than most cacti.
Oh, and it should be OK in full sun straight away.

Well, 11 months later and the Kratom died over the winter. I got mites indoor and tried to remove them with neem, but that just killed all of the leaves and stems on the kratom. Lesson learned, don't get any pesticides near Kratom.

Pedro, however, is doing well. Repotted in the Spring of this year. I haven't fertilized since repotting and it seems to be doing fine. If I were to fertilize, which of 15-30-15 or 12-52-6 (N-P-K) would be recommended?

The pedro does look good,, I,d say either fertilizer would be fine, just dilute good, you dont say if that is organic fer, or chemical based, but your name tells me organic?
I feed all my cactus , good worm castings, bat buano, peru
seabird guano, I just use a very diluited solution.

Thanks for the compliment and advice, rod

The fert is synthetic, I have to use them outside because organic ferts tend to draw in the wildlife that dig in containers. I`ll be sure to use a light, diluted dose, thanks for the advice again.

I wonder if you can propogate krantom by leaf cuttings....

You can take almost any leaf, cut it into 100 pieces and do micro rooting.
There was a good thread in here the other day about taking 1000's of cuttings from just a handful of leaves
I bet the rate of rooting success with leaf or micro leaf cuttings is low. Like less than 50%. Anyone ever do leaf routings?

I root some leaves mainly begonias and virdis.

making 100s of micro cuttings is only suited for lab work though.
