Fuck Karma! The World is Governed by Chaos

I know this is the Pub so many probably believe in Karma and that there is some order to the world.  But in my own experiences I've found this to be completely untrue.  Although it's a nice to believe that we do have a purpose in life, the truth is that the universe is really nothing more than spontaneous and random chemical interactions.  The fact there is a certain amount of probability to all randomness makes order seem possible, but probability is still based more on chaos than it is on order.

This came to my attention as I was watching Waking Life.  I'm on a lot of drugs right now and very drunk so excuse any horribly flawed statements in this post.  My thoughts seem to make perfect sense to me at least. :wink:

Karma in the metaphysical sense is of course an utter falsehood, but common sense will tell you that if you violate other people and treat them poorly you will face retribution from those people or their friends and family or the law, though I suppose this doesn't matter to you considering the nihilistic tone of your post.

I just have many friends that believe "what goes around comes around." Even most religions seem to base many of their preachings off of karma. Catholicisom itself teaches that all sins will punished for in the afterlife if you you don't redeem yourself. Personally I think this is fucking bullshit. I mean seriously...who is going to punish for sins I comitted when I was alive while I'm buried 6 feet under the cold dirty ground.

It's not like I'm saying people should be allowed to do whatever they want with out punishment, but the way people administer punishment for wrongness and sin is just a scare tatic and just another way for the pope to buy and new and fancier hat.

Karma may be true. My inclination is to beleive it is. I beleive in a higher order to things - I beleive in right and wrong.

Look at it this way. If you have a shortcoming, you will meet it sooner or later. The circumstances of life almost guarantee it. So, if you do not do the right thing, you may become aware of that shortcoming. You realize what you need to do.

Say, for example, that you have no problem killing an ant or a fly for no good reason. Don't get me wrong. Sometimes, there is a reason to kill (like eating animals in order to survive). However, killing a harmless ant or fly is not justified.

So, when someone stomps on you and you get sad or mad about it, you get your just desert. It has to do with respect. You do not show respect to the ant or the fly, so why should anyone or anything else show respect to you? So you get sad or mad.. and you continue that cycle of ignorance.

If you took the time to realize that you need to respect everything, including the ant, the fly, and yourself, then you would overcome no matter what. If someone disrespected you, you would realize that they are the ignorant one and simply accept what happened and respond the best way possible. There would be no clouded judgement, because the concept of respect would be dead set in your thoughts and actions.

So in that respect, karma works if for no other reason than your ability to use logic requires that you adhere to your own moral compass. You cannot lie to yourself without the realization that you are stopping dead in your tracks.

I beleive that the universe as a whole works in a certain way that requires you to do the right thing. Morals are real concepts that are necessary to understand and experience. Things have a way of working out based on your actions (I consider everything that you do to be an action, from breathing to thinking). If you do wrong without caring, you're bound to get served (in the wise words of Sublime). You will get served in any case, but the point is - how do you react. If you have the courage to keep on going in the right direction no matter what, things will work out. One way or the other.

karma has been so misunderstood by western culture. karma simply states that there is a balance, a harmony, a pattern to the universe. if you know anything about choas theroy, wich i know you do pants, you will know that there is a hgigher pattern to existence. the chaos hides in repition and repition hides in chaos.
karma is not helping a kitty out of a tree and then finding a $20 bill on the ground. every action you make every sound, every thought. has infinate rippling effects across the universe. what you put out will eventualy make its way back. maybe not today, or this year, or in your life time. but what you do does matter. never right yourself off as a victom of cosmic fault.

There cannot be chaos without harmony. The two are codependent on one another. That's karma.

karma is as silly as all human-invented superstition.  In REALITY, 'Karma' is only a favor for a favor.  If you help somebody out and they remember and help you out back, that is the only way 'karma' can work.  If something happens to you that is good and it comes by chance...it was a random occurance and had nothing to do with any past actions you did.

Me: Why didn't 'karma' bite Hitler in the ass??

Karma Advocate: It did, he was surrounded by his enemies and was forced to commit suicide rather than be captured.

Me: Well, didn't he get away with killing millions of people over many years of power before 'karma' got him?

I think there is sort of a "social karma" at play here. As Itstarssaddam pointed out, if you go around being an asshole, people will treat you like one.

Yup, because they can see you being an asshole or they can read your demeanor. This means they can make logical decisions as to how they correspond with you. If we are talking about random chance that has nothing to do with a rational observer making a conscious decision about how to treat you.

Believers in karma believe that chance is not really chance, it is some sort of due that manifests itself as a self-guided effect of a sum of causes (no matter how distant in past or witnessed by others) or something like that...that is their error.

Chaos is limited to ones perception, but in an expanded consciousness one will notice many synchronicities in life proving some form of order.

Hurricanes, a spiraling mass fixed in revolution around a center of energy. The earth revolves around the sun. Galaxies, the same exact thing...

As for the karma remark, I dare one person here to claim individuals who commit heinous and uncompassionate acts upon others do not at some point get their retribution in one form or another. Seems like common sense right? I bet you just said DUH, but the point of it being written in texts is for those who lose grasp and disbelieve the law that you will always pay for conscious crimes of the self.

well regarding karma, in buddhist teachings it's said that life and truth and all that....the basis of it all is suffering. so if you assume that you die and go to heaven or whatever you wanna call it, for eternity, that's karma on a grander scale, undeniable. undeniable if you believe in some sort of after-life, be it reincarnation or something else.
