Vacuum in LC jar

I've made my first LC with 4% Karo and it's coming along great. My question comes with the vacuum that was formed during pressure cooking. Two 16ga holes were punched in the lid and then sealed on both sides with silicone.
Innoculating the jar made it clear that there is a vacuum present. How to I solve this? I've read here that I need a filtered syringe, but I'm confused at how a syringe filled with polyfil is an adequate filter. Do I need to PC or nuke the syringe to sterilize the polyfil and air inside? It seems that introducing ANY outside air is a great way to contaminate the jar.
Suggestions?

you made your jars wrong. You should have had another hole for gas exchange.. use tyvek ot a polyfill filled tube

poke the polyfilled syringe in one hole, the syringe you plan on filling, in the other
air that comes in through the polyfill syringe, is filtered by the polyfill. so its outside air, but its 'cleaned' in a sense by the polyfill on its way into the jar. of course, there's no plunger in the syringe, so it acts as a tube. flame the needle before you stick it in, so the part that goes into the jar, is clean. PC'ing the syringe tube filled with polyfill before using it the first time seems like a wise move, but wouldn't be necesary every time you want to draw LC as long as you keep it pretty well clean... the polyfill keeps the nasties out of the inside of it.

Wrong. LC's do not need gas exchange. I've made clouds you can't see through.
Next time just crack the lids before pcing them, or even better, boil them for a minimum of 20 minutes. Works just as good without the hassle of the PC.
I personally like a seal on them occasionally when working with a valuable strain, as I work in a glovebox anyway and this assures no contaminates can enter.

I've made LC's that where fully sealed. I found that when it came time to suck some LC out of the jar, due to the vacuum in the jar, air would be pulled into the syringe from behind the plunger. This seems to be more risky then having air get sucked through a wad of polyfil or some micropore tape.

Not the vacu-tainers fault you have crappy syringes. Can't say I've ever experienced that before. Might be time for a replacement.

Great, this is exactly what I was looking for. I'll be sure to try it for my next LC, thanks for the info!

Make sure to research first, you'll want to use a rack, use cold water brought up to a rolling boil and then set back down a bit under medium, not go over halfway up past the jars for the pan water level, keep a lid on, etc.
