ac.. I'm thinking that this wouldn't work so well. Many of the vacuum manufacturers are adding HEPA filtration to their products because the bags let too big a particulate through.

Damn man, NuShroom is practically giving filter discs away. With him, they're probably cheaper than vacuum cleaner bags anyway (no kidding).

Some of the newer bags boast of 99.99% filtration. Your idea would make an interesting experiment. Look for these new generation bags.

Wow, that's better than the filter discs if it's true. I wonder how thick they are and if you can get a good seal w/ them.

why not just use polyfil ?
it's cheap, re-useable, commonly available at crafts stores, and works great.

Good point Hippie.. I like using polyfil w/ the 'oven cooking bags' when sterilizing subs in filter patch bags. The filled FP bags go in the cooking bag, then it's corked w/ the polyfill to allow gas exchange. Otherwise, the bag will explode during PC if sealed tightly w/o a gas exchange valve. Then, after sterilizing, the subs are carried to the lab inside the cooking bag for max cleanliness.

I prefer the filter discs on jars because they make it easier to get the lids off for innoc (arthritis).

I'm wondering if one of these vacuum bags could be fitted onto a blower to feed a plenum. Will have to look and see what's available.

the vacuem bags that i have are called true hepa. they are extremely thick and when i blowed on one my breath went through it with some moderate difficulties. i figured that i can just cut a pice out and use it. the only problem with that is that they are kinda expensive and (now that i know) i can probably buy polifill at the crafts store i live by. if plyfill is that easily accumulated then why bother with these?

Hepa, down to what particle size.

Its all good claiming 99.9% filtration, but down to what particle size.

MM filter disks do less than 99.9 but they do it to an incredibly small particle size.
